This lovely Forté will delight those with smaller arms! I got it because I occasionally play the psaltery with a bow, and I thought this 3/4 bow would be much shorter than a full 4/4 bow for that instrument. I had no idea that a 3/4 violin bow was nearly as long as a full violin bow, with only about 2 inches difference. 5 inches. Having said that, I am an occasional old-timey fiddler, so I rosined her up and put her to the test on my violin! Wow! It only took a small amount of rosin for her to be able to sing with this bow. I compared this bow to my other two (a Glasser and an old TUBBS), and she sings just as well! Very sharp and crisp, as well as perfectly straight with no warp! With a little more rosin on her hairs, she'll be able to grip the strings like a pro! Because the difference is only a few inches, I could just as easily use her on my 150-year-old 4/4 and be perfectly content, as the style fiddle for a lower rank player is short bowing rather than long bowing. (I guess I'll have to go out and find a 1/8 or 1/4 bow for my psaltery, or just fix the ones I have. ).
The balance is excellent. It has a lovely appearance. The stick appears to be long lasting. Horsehair of the highest quality. This lovely bow has a nice balanced feel and a warm tone, at least to an amateur like myself. Staccato movements respond to the genuine horse hair. I've never had one with an octagonal stick before, and I can't tell the difference in sound or feel, so I'm inclined to believe the shape is more for show. I'm deducting a star because I recently purchased another bow in this range, and the horsehair frayed far too quickly.
This bow is stunning, even more so than I had anticipated for the price, and the craftsmanship is impeccable. The mother of pearl is a lovely touch, and it's well-made and durable. The hairs are well seated, and I don't see any issues with this bow; it's a fantastic purchase.
This is a fantastic deal. It's well-made and well-balanced. My grandson was very pleased with the finished product, which is flawless. He was particularly taken with the frog's design.
This bow is well-made and the perfect size for a young violinist; it is of good quality, light, and easy to hold.
