Questions & Answers

Where do these come from?

Guyker is a Korean product!

Will they be compatible with an Ibanez gio?

So long as the headstock has a 33 on it. To my knowledge, gio's have six inline tuning machines on the left side.

Is it necessary to have six left or six right tuners on a standard right-handed strat style guitar?

6 for left indicates that the tuners are on the top side of a left-handed guitar or the bottom side of a reverse-handed guitar when in playing position. Guitar with a right-handed headstock. br>6 for right indicates that the tuners are on the top side of a right-handed guitar or the bottom side of a reverse-handed guitar in playing position. Guitar with a left-handed headstock. br>I found out the hard way after following the advice of "Are your tuners on the left or right when looking at the guitar from the front?" 90% of the time, a RH Strat has 6 on left" which leads you to believe you should order 6 for left on a standard right handed guitar. This is not the case.

Perfect!
5/5

Installing these on the Firefly 338 could not have been easier; the offset set screw holes lined up perfectly, and it took less than five minutes. 7 minutes, make sure the screws are waxed or bar soaped, they'll go in much easier.

I had no idea until now
4/5

So I decided to replace the tuners on a guitar I've had since the late 2000s as part of some upgrades. I didn't realize it at the time because I wasn't fully awake, but I purchased locking tuners. I had no idea what they were, so I took them out of the box and played with them like a caveman trying to figure out what they were. I'd only ever used regular tuners before, but I'm going to get another set for one of my guitars because they made the process of changing the strings a lot easier for me. I have a fused wrist, so trying to keep everything in line myself was a huge pain in the butt. Not only that, but my acoustic, which was known for detuning on some strings, has stayed perfectly in tune according to multiple tuners every time I check it after a day or so of not playing. br>br>Wow, you guys did a fantastic job, both in terms of quality and functionality. Everything glided through the air like silk. If you don't get it, they basically take a long skinny screw, thread it into the back of the tuner, and use it to lock the string in place by directing it through the post and pinning the string to the tuner's casing to prevent slipping. It's time to place a new order. br>br>.

Excellent value for money
4/5

These were purchased for a project guitar, and they perform admirably. They don't have the smoothest action, but they're a significant improvement over the standard cheap locking tuners. The action is smooth, but not as smooth as some of the more well-known tuners. They are, however, an excellent value for the money. For comparison, they're somewhere between a stock import guitar locking tuner and Hipshot in terms of quality. Again, I'm not sure you can do better for the price.

Another case of "you get what you pay for
3/5

" Please stay away from them. You'd think that by now I'd have learned that if something appears to be too good to be true, it probably is. They arrived after a nearly three-week wait. The appearance is fantastic, and there are no installation issues at all. After they were all in place, I started restringing until I got to the first E. 010" thick, and the tuner in that position would not be able to securely clamp the string. I switched to a different tuner and it worked fine. As well, the string would not be secured, so I tried the other tuner on the opposite side, but it was still a loose string. If three people don't clamp the string, the chances are that the rest of the people won't either. Clamping on thicker strings is not a problem for them; only thin strings are. There isn't a category for mostly locking tuners, as far as I can tell.

Caution is advised due to a lack of quality control
3/5

I was initially drawn to these tuners because they were a good match for my original electric acoustics tuners, with the addition of a locking mechanism. They appeared to be of good quality right out of the box. Unfortunately, these tuners did not work as well as they appeared. A few of them had significantly more turning resistance than the others, and their locking mechanisms did not move freely. I discovered metal shavings jammed inside the housing that contains the threads when I unscrewed the locking pin from the tuners that were causing problems. These were difficult to pry out, but I was able to pry them out and replace the locking mechanisms. br>However, the difficulties didn't end there. It was still difficult to turn three of the tuning keys. I had to lubricate the gear while turning the key repeatedly, allowing more metal shavings to escape. br>I thought I was out of the woods once all the keys turned smoothly. The D string snapped right at the post hole as I was putting on my strings and tightening them. I replaced the string and tried again, but the result was the same! I had been careful not to over-tighten it! I removed the locking pin and inspected the pin tip as well as the string hole to tighten the locking mechanism. These were braided strings, so I removed the locking pin and inspected the pin tip as well as the string hole. When the pin was tightened, the inside of the string hole had a sharp edge that had begun to cut into the strings. My third string survived after a small file smoothed out the rough edges. br>I gave these two stars because they are attractive and "eventually" functional.

These aren't compatible with the Firefly 338
3/5

I bought these to replace the tuners on my new Firefly, but I only had two of them. I'm not sure if some of them were defective, but I couldn't keep the top nut from slipping into the winder. I couldn't seem to get the nut post deep enough to catch no matter what I tried, so I had to return it. These may work well, but they do not work for the firefly. I know another review stated that they did, but they did not in my case.

I was happily surprised! I'd purchase it again
4/5

For my Harley Benton CST-II, I needed some better tuners. When it comes to replacing tuners, I'm 24 and I always go the locking route. These looked like they would fit without the need to drill any new holes when I saw them. They're the ideal fit! I would have given it a perfect score if not for the fact that one of the tuners is a little stiff in comparison to the others, and another has a small bubble-like blemish on the tuning key. Aside from that nitpicking, they're fantastic for the money, seem to hold tune well so far, and are a huge step up from stock tuners in terms of ratio and overall tuning experience.

Upgrade your Harley Benton CST-V with a simple plug-and-play installation
4/5

I have a few cheap import guitars that I've upgraded to locking tuners. br>br>These Guyker machines are a good buy for "inspired by PRS" headstocks, and I highly recommend them. The 1: The 19:1 ratio is absolutely correct. When used in conjunction with a Graphtech self-lubricating nut, you can achieve a very precise and stable tuning. Guyker's fit and finish are adequate, but not up to the standards of more expensive brands. br>br>I was much happier with Hipshot for my Squier Strats/Teles and Gibson Les Paul (despite the fact that Hipshot is $20 more). br>br>The best looking and feeling locking tuners are Fender American locking tuners, but they are difficult to install on a Squier. I'm not going to try it again. br>br>Hipshot's universal mounting plate makes installation a breeze in most cases, and the quality is nearly as good as Fender's. The Hipshot mounting plate, on the other hand, isn't truly universal. Because they aren't suitable for PRS-style layouts, I chose these Guykers for my CST-style layouts based on other Amazon reviews. Still, I believe it was the best decision I could have made.
