This would be fine for a modern jazz bass, but it's too big and the string spacing is too wide for my 1974 Fender Jazz.
Because this is a "JAZZ BASS" nut, it will not fit a Precision neck, which is much wider.
Yes, we use buffalo bone to make it. Many thanks, Musiclily.
I've discovered that it will fit any bass. My purchase included two pieces, one of which I installed on my 94 Fender Jazz (headstock marked "made in Japan"). I'm confident it'll fit, but you'll have to make some adjustments. They must be custom fit regardless of which nut you purchase, even if it is a factory nut. To make it fit properly in the neck and ensure the strings sit in the channels properly, you'll need a Needle File set and some 220 grit sand paper. Overall, this is a fantastic product. I hope this information is useful!

For Jazz Basses, the answer is emphatically no. This nut may fit Precision Basses, but the nut's overall width and string spacing are incompatible with the Jazz Bass neck's thinner profile. The E and G strings end up right on the fretboard's edge, rendering the bass useless. To ensure a proper fit, measure your bass neck. This nut has a width of 1 11/16".
For my Fender Squire P-Bass, this is the ideal length. With a Jazz neck, it's a special bass. With a welding nozzle spiral cleaning tool, I had to file down string slots. The slots are not as narrow as they appear in the picture. However, until I bought this nut, I couldn't find one that was the right length (for my neck width). I got two of them, one of which was accompanied by a guitar pick. If I needed something else, I'd buy it again.
It's a tad too wide for a Monoprice Indio Jazz Bass, but it'll suffice as a replacement nut. It fit perfectly, neither too snug nor too loose. And the string heights were almost perfect; they provide the dimensions, so buyers of a p-string should disregard the negative reviews. It doesn't fit their jazz bass, according to the bass nut. It also comes in two pieces in case you make a filing mistake.
This isn't the right bass for jazz. You'll need to use a rubber mallet to get it to fit properly. Then file an eighth of an inch off each side and file the actual string slots to ensure that the strings fit.
J bass. Precisely tailored to the P-style's slimmer neck Because the string slots were already spaced out on the J bass, replacing the nut was simple and it fit perfectly. Also, the price is reasonable, and the shipping is quick.
Works great and fits perfectly in my Squier Standard Special P-Bass (with a little sanding). Indonesian bass with a Jazz Bass neck.
I sanded it down to make it a little thinner and narrower. On my J-model, it's a perfect fit. The bass and string slots are ideal for. 45 to . There are 105 strings in total.
And I only did a smidgeon of what I was supposed to do. But. It was ready to use right out of the box. It is highly recommended.
