For a friend, I was given the task of repairing and setting up an old/cheap J bass replica. I figured this was a low-cost option because the bass was in bad shape and needed to be upgraded. To be honest, I didn't need the plate because the bass already had a P-style pickup. Only the electronics were required, so I removed them from the plate. To be sure, the plate was solid, sturdy, and attractive, so I'm disappointed I wasn't able to use it. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the bass sounded after I finished wiring everything up. There are no crackles or pops as the pots turn smoothly. The tone control is effective. It made a significant difference, and I'm glad I chose this path. Sure, it won't match the quality of the more expensive "name" brand alternatives, but if you're looking for a cheap way to fix your Jazz bass's basic electronics, this harness will suffice.
I originally purchased it solely for the pre-order. I'm upgrading the electronics on a P/J bass, so I made a wired wiring harness for it. I replaced the harness in the P/J bass with the one I removed from the control panel. Although the harness is nearly too small for the P/J, it does fit. I replaced the factory chrome control panel with a black panel just to see what it would look like. A black pick guard and black block inlays are on my natural finish jazz bass. The holes in the panel perfectly lined up with the holes in the jazz bass, and the job was completed in 15 minutes. It will take 20 minutes. I didn't like how the black panel looked with the black pick guard, so I reinstalled the original chrome panel and installed the volume and tone controls that were appropriate for my jazz bass.
This drop-in plate surprised me with its ease of use and high quality. The fit is excellent, and the sound quality exceeds my expectations. As I have a red cherry burst with black edging, the black color and real Jazz knobs appeal to me. This is very nice. For a low-cost upgrade to a Squier Jazz Bass, I suggest this product. I'm a professional player, so I don't make recommendations lightly. For the money, this is a good upgrade. Do it!.
This kit with the chrome plate was more than enough for me - That plate isn't on my bass; instead, it's a plastic cover over a larger area. I simply unbolted the pots and jack from the plate and swapped out my old electronics in a matter of minutes. This is how the bass sounded when it was brand new. With the amp turned up, I heard a smidgeon of scratching on the pots, which was unobtrusive given the price.
exactly as described and anticipated.
I like how they're black (because I ordered black ones. . . ) and how realistic they look! Now we'll just have to wait and see if they work.
The small pots are the only thing that bothers me. Soldering is a little difficult due to the size.
Despite the fact that this came up as a recommendation for it, it did not fit my required guitar.
