Questions & Answers

Is this possible to use on a violin with a solid body to make it electric?

Thank you for reaching out. There will be an amplified version of whatever vibrations come out of that solid body. When the body emits little vibration then I suspect it will still pick up vibrations from the bridge if the body is not producing much vibration.

Are other instruments around it going to be picked up by the mic as well, such as a snare? Is it limited to picking up only the violin?

The violin is all that's needed. It occasionally picks up my hum in places I don't play if I still have my violin under my chin when the volume is high enough. I must say that it is a pretty amazing pickup... Noise is picked up very little and feedback is very I like the sound of both the low and high ranges

Is there a 1/4 size violin that this would fit?

Unless your violin is 4/4 size, it is not for you. There is no 1/4 version advertised by Headway, but they make it for 3/4 and 1/2 sizes as well.

It comes with a chord to plug the guitar into the amp, does it not?

Let me say hello to you, There is no cable that comes with the violin pickup. Pickup only has to be electronic.

It was a bit of a pain to put it together, but it was worth the effort
4/5

There's a good chance that this will be the greatest invention since the invention of the This product disappointed me very much when it arrived. There was mild output, but when stronger notes were played, it buzzed. I was fortunate in that the seller was The FiddlerShop, and the Fiddlerman himself helped me sort it out. I was pointed in the right direction by him after he knew exactly what was wrong. When I played three shows with it on St. Paddy's day, all sorts of positive comments were made about how good It's better than the one I have There is little or no feedback in my Myers microphone, and the sound is very close to what I get from mine. Another reason I like it is that I can use it on a variety of Therefore, what are the reasons for only giving it 1 .
Despite only a few days of use, the Velcro is starting to lose grip in various locations. There is also a large area of contact, so this is not an issue right now, but it will eventually be. 2
Fiddlerman correctly diagnosed that the buzzing and the weakness of the instrument were caused by the band simply being too loose around it. From the description, I imagined that the band would be more pliable and flexible, but it can be a challenge to get it tight. In addition to the Fiddlermans tips on getting the fit snug, I received some helpful ones as well. In the end, I created a second band (elastic with Velcro attachment points) to increase the snugness of the fit. It is ideal, then, that the material that covers most of The Band be more elastic, so that a good contract can be formed between the top of the instrument

I imagine a tight fit on violins with a higher arch on the top as well as a deeper bowl is easier. It is absolutely imperative to get a good, strong sound out of the violin by attaching the bow snugly to the top. Though one must put in some effort to get this sound, the reward is well worth it. The sound is smooth and balanced, and lacks the harsh "electronic" feel of many other non-diegetic instruments. There are different types of microphones.

The sound quality is the same as any other high-end product I picked up the end of my this sounds like a good plan There is a distinct sound coming from the PA system that reminds me of my violin! If you want the piezo pickups to sound good, you will need an active DI that's specially designed for acoustic instruments or piezo pickups, as you would need with any piezo pickup
4/5

The DI I got didn't have a low cut filter, and I wish that had been the case. You need to adjust the pickup of a Headway Band to achieve the correct sound - that's the most important thing. If you want to eliminate really low frequencies (below 100 Hz), you may want to do so. I can play a fiddle tune where the direction changes on the bow sound like a drum beat, in particular if there are a lot of triplets. The sound is perfectly natural, however, once the low cut filter is applied. You may also want to increase the highs to brighten up the sound because that is to some people's taste, and it depends on your fiddle and your DI. The Headway Band is, however, a pretty natural sounding pickup when compared to most piezo pickups. Most or all of the EQ can be left flat and you'll still get decent sound. With this pickup, you can just plug it into a DI box and it will sound To connect to the PA system I use the LR Baggs Para DI box with an XLR cable. I think that works very well for you. As long as you stretch the band a bit to get a tight fit, it is very easy to put on and take off the fiddle. You can definately say it feels more durable than any other removable pickup or microphone. If I'm carrying a fiddle case, I put it in the front pocket and not worry about losing it. A shoulder strap fits perfectly onto it as well You can store the strappy holder in the case if you want a secure place to store it. There is one warning to be aware of Choose a pickup that has a softer gauge if your varnish is brittle and peeling off your violin. You do rub the varnish against this when you install and remove the product There is no way to avoid it. This should not be a problem for most fiddles The following are the symptoms of people with flakey brittle Who you are is well known to you.

This is far superior to a violin powered by electricity
5/5

After a loud crash last year, the electric violin I had been playing for 10 years broke (it was a $2000 model, higher end). After much consideration, I decided to purchase this instead of paying for a large repair or buying another This works great. It's nice to have one less instrument to store and find room for, and it takes up very little space. Since we already have a sound guy, I didn't need an effects pedal, so I let them handle it through the soundboard. There is a little bit more bow noise from this instead of when I use an electric violin, but I just have to be more careful during performance. It is a good thing that it makes me use proper technique rather than letting me get away with being lazy and letting my bow arm go crooked. In regard to body noise, I have not I have noticed I need to be careful when I'm speaking, or if I start singing or humming along, as that WILL get picked up if my violin is under my chin or if I look at The peg became stubborn as I dealt with it). My violin sounds like it has a mute on it acoustically because of However, this is easily fixed if you have a decent sound board. There is such a huge difference in sound between the electric violin and the actual There have been SO MANY compliments about how much warmer it sounds, and how my dynamics and more subtly played playing really stand out.
