How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

All modern and vintage banjos have a geared fifth peg.
Quick and precise tuning is possible with the 10:1 gear system.
The finish is lustrous and long-lasting thanks to triple nickel plating.
The Pearloid button, which can be removed, is both comfortable to hold and attractive.

Questions & Answers

Is this something that would work with an Oscar Schmidt banjo?

Yes, it will fit a Schmidt if the hole is tapered. If you're switching from a friction tuner to a geared tuner, you'll need the kit that includes the reamer to taper the hole.

What makes this different from the Golden Gate P-card? Tuner no. 149?

The Golden Gate's knobs are made of Pearlized material, which is the main difference. Made to appear as if it were made of mother-of-pearl. Plastic

From a friction peg, this is a good upgrade
5/5

My old, cheap Japanese banjo had a friction peg, so I needed to upgrade. br>I used a soldering iron to remove the old peg, taking great care not to damage the wood finish. Wrapped in a blanket, patiently pulled and wiggled. It's similar to yanking a tooth out. br>I also need to dremel out the hole a little. br>Take your time. Working with a sandpaper bit for a second or two at a time, checking the fit frequently. With a cloth wrapped around my hand, I squeezing it in. I didn't use a hammer because I didn't want to split the neck; instead, I used a wedge. br>The tuning process is simple and straightforward. In my opinion, this is far superior to the old friction peg. I was able to play my flimsy banjo.

It's a difficult task
5/5

This is an excellent tuning machine, and I'm using it on a $4,000 banjo right now. It's also one of the cheapest 5th string tuning pegs on the market. It appears to be of good quality and performs admirably, earning a score of ten out of ten. 1:1 is ideal, and I'm not sure why anyone would need tuning machines that cost two or three times as much; perhaps it'll only last five years? It'll only set you back ten dollars.

great
5/5

I used it because my old banjo tuning peg cracked and fell apart (I had the old traditional turn pegs, not these fancy geared ones). As a result, this turn peg was too large to accommodate my entire fifth string. As a result, I had to drill into my banjo neck to make it wider. I was nervous, but everything went smoothly, and Banjo is now picking away!.

Installing it was a breeze
5/5

This one only required a small socket to gently hammer in the piece after I removed the old straight line tuner key. It was an excellent substitute, with no skips to date.

Tune It

When you're in a pinch, these aren't bad. You'll notice a significant difference if you've ever used weaver pegs. These aren't too bad for a casual player.

You'll need to double-check your current runner's diameters. It's possible that some changes will be required. Best wishes to you.

My Jameson banjo's tuner was exactly the same as this one

The true owner was a perfect match and was simple to set up using YouTube instructions.

a garbage item - Spend less! This product is so poorly made that the gears are unlikely to hold tension when tuning up your brand new string, which is frustrating to discover after you've already reamed and installed the peg in your banjo's neck
3/5

I placed two orders; the first arrived broken, and the second failed after installation. If you're looking to replace a friction peg or save money on a geared peg repair, put this one on the back burner as soon as possible.
