Questions & Answers

Is there a way to remove the backrest?

I forgot about it because I don't own the chair any longer, but I believe the backrest can be adjusted (moved up and down).

Is the backrest attached to the base of the throne and rotates with it, or is it fixed in place?

The backrest rotates in tandem with the seat.

Is it rated for a certain amount of weight?

This was purchased for my boyfriend, who weighs over 200 pounds, and it is very sturdy for him. I don't recall if the maximum weight was specified in the instructions.

Is there anyone who knows if this would work well for guitar? If there isn't a foot rest, could one of the legs' tops be used?

From a height standpoint, it's fine, but I'm not sure if you'll need a foot rest for guitar, and I'm not sure this will suffice. I bought it with the intention of using it to play timpani, but it was far too low, so I bought a timpani throne. This one I gave to a friend who plays the drums, and it's perfect for him. You could go for a Roc-style Roc-style Roc-style Roc-style Guitar sock with footrest and back, some with backs as well. They are, however, a little on the expensive side.

Be ready for bruises, bruising, and even worse
3/5

I'm 86 years old and have only recently started taking acoustic guitar lessons (yes, even an old dog can learn new tricks). There was no way to adjust the height of any of our household furniture. The seat in Gibraltar appeared to be a no-brainer, and it was. But be cautious. It is extremely hazardous to use. After a few backward falls, I realized the three-dimensional nature of the situation. A leg stool must be positioned with one leg pointing backward, or the seat will be unbalanced. Although the rubber feet on the stool prevent sideways sliding, it's easy to forget to reset the back leg in line with the backrest if the seat is physically moved. Although the seat serves its purpose, I would hesitate to give it more stars.

This seat is sturdy, comfortable, and adaptable
5/5

I am not a drummer, like so many others who buy thrones. This was bought to serve as a focal point for my home studio activities - Guitars, a computer, and a keyboard Long sessions are made more comfortable by the seat's firm padding. The anti- The cool, velour-like fabric is far more comfortable than vinyl. The packing, shipping, and assembly were all flawless; my only quibble is that the hight lockout (memory) clamp requires a head key to use the square head - this is a minor nit. I'm not a drummer, yet again. It would be nice if the knurled bolt was longer, so I could use my thumb. such a small detail - but true. Nonetheless, this is a five-star experience.

The product does not live up to its price tag
3/5

As a result, I'm generally dissatisfied. It isn't terrible, but it isn't great either. I had hoped for a lot more for $150. It has adequate cushioning. My butt hurts after a while, which I don't think it should for this price, and I'm a big guy at 6ft 4in and 250lbs, so the back support isn't ideal. When I'm playing, it's fine because I don't lean back very much and only do so for a few seconds at a time. However, when I casually put weight back on between sets or after a break, I've noticed a slow bend developing. It's completely bent back now. I believe that for the price of this throne, it should be more durable. Aside from that, it's built to last in terms of securing methods and overall construction. It's just that the backrest isn't very sturdy. I wouldn't buy it again if I had the option. It ought to cost no more than $100.

Be cautious when purchasing something online

This isn't the same chair that was on the market eight years ago. If you look at the attached photo, you'll notice that the backrest on the newer one (right) is not bent like the original one (left). This causes the backrest to push against your back at an angle, which is uncomfortable. The new chair appears to be made of less expensive materials than the previous one, and the price has risen on Amazon.

I was let down
3/5

This Gibraltar throne has left me very disappointed. Despite the fact that it appears to be made of high-quality materials, the final product is rather disappointing. The seat foam is firm and hard to bend. It is slightly softer than a wooden bench. The most irritating aspect is that the seat wobbles on the post, which I've tightened and re-tightened several times. Even after tightening everything, the seat continues to rock, which is both distracting and cheap-feeling. Overall, I have the impression of being behind the wheel of an 80-year-old tractor. At this price point, however, this is not what I was looking for. br>br>I'm also not a fan of the fact that I now have to carry an extra wrench around with me to make adjustments because this uses/requires wingnuts, a drum key, and yet another wrench. Boo! This is a bad design. Only wing nuts and drum keys are used on the rest of my thrones. br>br>I have other Gibraltar equipment, which is fantastic. This throne, on the other hand, isn't one of them. After all, my Pearl throne, which is 12 years old, isn't so bad.

This chair is ideal for practicing your guitar
5/5

Based on other reviews, I purchased this to use as a classical and electric guitar practice chair. So far, it's been very effective in this regard. I'm 5'11" and weigh 168 pounds, and my legs are parallel to the ground when the seat is at its lowest position. The seat is 19-inches wide at the very front. In this position, 1/2" is available. I had an ergonomic evaluation at work and was told that this was the best position for posture and fatigue in the workplace, so I used it here. If you are significantly shorter, you may want to consider something with a lower rise unless you want a slight angle between the tops of your legs and the ground. This chair has been pleasant to sit in for a few hours at a time, which is about all I have. I don't use the backrest while practicing, but it's convenient to have when you need to take a break for a few minutes. It's a bit of a letdown that there isn't a wrench included for the seat lock (I'm not a drummer), but I discovered that a 1/4" box end wrench works just fine without stripping the square bolt, is portable, doesn't rattle, and actually feels a little heavier than it looks. This purchase was a good buy.

Although it is of high quality, it does not provide much additional functionality
3/5

Of course, this is a high-quality Gibraltar product, with a plush seat cushion. If any of you are looking for something similar to what I was looking for, please let me know. This isn't the throne you're looking for. Here's how it works. My back is starting to tire as I get older, and as a professional drummer who sits at the drums almost every day, I was hoping that a throne with a backrest would provide me with support while I played. However, you won't be able to get this backrest cushion close enough to your back to lean against it while playing. When we play as drummers, we have a tendency to "lean into the kit. " Leaning back (to achieve the backrest's pressure) isn't enough. It causes you to be "away" from the kit and out of position to play. So I'm sitting on this throne exactly like I was on my old Gibraltar throne, and the backrest serves no purpose other than allowing me to lean back when I'm not playing. I believe that if the backrest frame was bent to the point where the backrest pad was almost leaning forward when fully adjusted, so that when we sit at the kit to play, the backrest is actually pressing against our back, keeping us in the proper position and posture, this would provide me with the support I require.
