I recently returned to tenor drumming after a 20-year hiatus, and I bought these along with a set of Sean Vega tenor sticks. I like these for their reach and brighter sound, but I prefer the Sean Vegas for their more weighted/ balanced feel and response. I use both sets of sticks in practice, and while the John Mapes sticks are great, I feel like I can chop out more with the Vegas. br>br>If you're not sure which you prefer, get both and try them out. You'll be able to make use of them eventually.
These are what Son uses to wring the life out of his tenors. They bring so much joy to us and our neighbors (with a hint of sarcasm thrown in for good measure). I'm still buying ibuprofen, as I mentioned in a previous review of a similar product, so they're working!.
Sticks are comfortable to hold and, for the most part, more consistent than other marching sticks from various manufacturers. Our quadline was in desperate need of these. The durability of the product is average. The sound quality is excellent. The only issue I have is with some inconsistencies in the finishes and some wood gouges. Aside from that, fantastic sticks at an incredible price.
They're pretty good sticks, based on what I've played with them. They're also not like other sticks you can buy on Amazon. Some of them have a light and hollow feel to them, which is reflected in the sound. These sound much better than a lot of other sticks you can buy on Amazon, so it's a good investment. I gave it four stars because I think it's a good product. I've used other sticks before, and it's really just a matter of personal preference, but these are excellent sticks.
My daughter is a tenor saxophonist who prefers to play exclusively with these sticks. I'll have to go out and get some more!.
Quads will love it! My daughter wears them every day, and they're still in good shape.
Remember that these sticks are the same length as regular snare drum sticks. Even though they were not as long as the tenor hybrid sticks, it took me some time to get used to them. In terms of feel and versatility, I still think they're a great alternative to Tom Aungst's tenor hybrids.
