I believe the rod is long enough for a closed hi hat, but I would recommend using a plastic bushing to protect your cymbals from chipping against the rod surface, as well as a sturdy base and clamp to mount the holder to.
It really works. This was vertically mounted to my bass drum mount, with the second horizontal arm bringing the final vertical arm close to my snare drum. With an LP cowbell and an LP block, I've mounted an LP dual mount on the last vertical arm. This is the best position for me to mount my cowbell and wood block, so it works great.

If you play Yamaha drums, it fits nicely in a tom stand; I keep it between my 14 and 16 fusion toms, just to the right of my ride. If you don't play Yamaha, you can mount it on a cymbal stand with any standard double clamp.
This is clamped to my tom riser so that my cowbell (must have a cowbell) can sit between my two mounted toms. It's as solid as a brick building. perfect . It appears that you are a professional. You'll never need to buy another because it adjusts exactly where I want my CB.
It's a no-brainer for Yamaha kits, and it's also ideal for any kit that requires a professional-grade holder.
Yamaha . DRUMS ACCESSORIES OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY.
I needed something that would allow me to use my Pearl ICON rack to store my percussion accessories (tambourine, jam block, and cowbell). My first choice was the Gibraltar, but after checking them out, I realized they were too expensive and not very versatile, so I went with Yamaha and couldn't be happier! Very good quality and construction, as well as the appropriate features for use on my rack or with a clamp. Is long enough to fit three instruments in it. My only gripe is the memory lock, which strangely isn't fixable with a standard drumkey. Whatever the case may be, I strongly advise it!.
Love it. I should have gotten one a long time ago.
I was able to use it for the purpose I had in mind.
