Questions & Answers
The thermometer is powered by a 3/4" diameter Lithium disk battery. When you extend the probe, it turns on, and when you swing it back to the thermometer's body, it turns off. Because it is only on for a few seconds at a time, the battery should last a long time, and I believe it is a good value for the money.
To turn on the thermometer, it must first be opened. If it doesn't work after you've put it in the operating position, it's a bad unit.
Your question is illogical, but based on what I understand, if the probe is open and the display is turned on, the numbers will move because the probe is reading the air temperature.
You can check the cake by opening the oven door and inserting a stick into it. However, you must not leave it in the oven for an extended period of time. It's a meat thermometer, to be precise. This isn't a candy or baking recipe.

I have a drawer full of vintage analog and dial meat thermometers, some of which are decades old. I've never been a fan of these fancy quick reads - I cook a lot, and I do a lot of low-and-slow bbq. br>I finally decided to try one of these out, and wow, what a difference it made. If you've been putting off buying one of these instant read thermometers, now is the time to do so! When your pit arrives, light it up and see how much faster you can get in, take a temperature, and close it up than you could with the slow analog dial thermometer. You waste 5 minutes checking and then it takes you 20 minutes to get back to normal temperature? With this, I can get in and out of the kitchen in seconds, whether on a kettle or a stick burner, with almost no temperature loss. GET ONE!.
This meat thermometer is extremely simple to read and operate. I like that it's a little bigger than my previous one because I was able to check the temperature of the chicken I was cooking without having to remove it from the oven. I like that it uses regular AAA batteries, because the previous one required those circle watch batteries, which I never had on hand when I needed them. This one comes highly recommended!.
When grilling, I'd stick it in the food and wait a minute or so for the reading to stabilize. br>br>Then we got this Adoric and. . . wow! It's fairly large, which makes it easier to handle with oven mitts, and it's magnetic, so it'll stay on my grill's table or our refrigerator. The thermometer is turned on by pulling out the probe, which is similar to opening a folding knife. The probe is long, which keeps my hands away from the grill, and it appears to read in a fraction of a second. br> The figures can be read. While the instructions warn against prolonged immersion, I have successfully submerged the entire unit for a brief period of time without harming it. br> There was even a spare battery included. Oh, and there's a built-in bottle opener, too! Using this type of thermometer has significantly improved my cooking—fish and other meats can be cooked to perfection, and there are no surprises of raw meat at the dinner table. This is one of my favorites. br> The only thing I haven't figured out is this: Does it turn off automatically if we leave it open to prevent the battery from being depleted?.
The first one I received was clearly not brand new from the moment I opened it. This one came with more/better packaging, a complete doneness chart that wasn't included in the first, and a small disc to help open the battery slot. It also works flawlessly. I'm not sure why a faulty, pre-owned car would be considered a waste of money. Although a used one was sent out, the good news is that a brand new one works perfectly. br>********

I'm working on getting a replacement and will gladly update my review once it arrives, but I'm not thrilled right now.
This is an excellent product that performs admirably. Update! We'd like to update our review now that we've had this thermometer for a few months and have used it. There have been no issues with this. Since purchasing it, we've put it to a lot of use. We've used it for cooking in a variety of ways, as well as testing the true temperature of our BBQ, since bbq thermometers are rarely accurate. By inserting the probe into a small hole in the bbq, I can now determine the true general temperature of the bbq, as opposed to the bbq thermometer's reading. We've used it to test bath water, and in the spring, we use it to test soil temperatures in our garden, ensuring that the soil temperature is suitable for planting. I just discovered why our cucumbers are sprouting and growing so slowly this morning: the ground temperatures are well below what they require. This is a fantastic thermometer that can be used for a variety of applications.
When it arrived, I had to replace the battery, but it worked flawlessly after that. I used it to cook steaks on the grill the day I got it, and they turned out perfectly! I appreciate the fact that the package includes a chart detailing the various temperature types for various meats.
I got a lightning deal on this meat thermometer. I would have given this a 4/5 if it hadn't stopped working properly. It's simple to operate, reads temperatures quickly and accurately, and comes with a bottle opener. The lack of tightness in the probe was my initial gripe with it. It has a lot of freedom of movement, which can make precise use difficult. The thermometer, however, stopped working after about nine months. It still opens and reads temperatures, but it resets to Celsius on a regular basis. Any slight movement causes it to reset, so it appears to be a wiring or casing issue. In addition, the backlit screen function has stopped working, and pressing the light button causes the thermometer to reset. I replaced the batteries, but it still didn't work, so I wouldn't recommend this meat thermometer.
Although it appeared that the meatballs were taking much longer to bake than usual, the thermometer read 88 degrees. Meatballs appeared to be overdone, so I checked with another digital thermometer, which read 200 degrees! When I cut into one to taste it, it was so dry that it was inedible, forcing me to discard the entire batch. 5 pounds of ground turkey, what a waste! It's simple to read and use, but it's wildly inaccurate. I bought it because it showed what temperature you should cook different types of meat at, whereas my previous one didn't.
