Questions & Answers

Is anyone aware of the meaning of Error Code 10? Are you unable to locate it in the manual or on the internet?

This isn't a warning or an error message. When the Carey lights up with E10, it's time to start the pressure-can venting process. The instructions, both the original and the revised versions, are unclear on this point. The pressure limiting valve should be set to "exhaust" when canning under pressure. After a few moments, the Carey will beep and display E10, which means you should do nothing. Allow the Carey to vent until the countdown reaches E0 before turning the pressure valve to "airtight." The timer will start as soon as you select "airtight."

Are meats able to be canned?

Yes, meats can be canned. My mother and I have used this canner for several years, canning everything from poultry to lamb and even beef. We both have pantries and have confirmed that food can be safely consumed after being stored for a year or more. I'd follow the USDA's canning guidelines (90 minutes for meats and 60 minutes for juice or broth).

"Can I use this canner to preserve apple pie filling?" ?

Yes, I've done it successfully using the Amish Canning Cookbook recipe on page 136, but you'll need wide-mouth quart jars, which should be nbd due to the amount and consistency of the filling.

I'm looking for a large electric pressure cooker that doesn't have a lot of extra bells and whistles. But I'm afraid I won't be able to. Is it still worth it for me to think about it? thanks! ?

The whole point of this canner, in my opinion, is that it has a lot of features (electronics are inexpensive). This single unit has replaced my crock pot, a smaller electric pressure cooker (that was not certified to can), and allows me to can smaller batches (such as the leftover chili I made with it). I don't see any disadvantages because the extra features are simple to use, and it's a lot easier to use than my large stovetop pressure canner. So, yes, I'd still take it into consideration. This investment was well worth it, and it will quickly pay for itself in terms of improved food and money saved.

5/5

Only pressure canning and water bath canning have been done with it. Not a single beat has been skipped! This pressure cooker/canner is extremely easy to operate. It saves a lot of time, effort, and mess when it comes to canning. Some users have complained that after two or three sessions, it generates an error code, but we were able to use it without any issues. I didn't have a single problem stopping for the entire day (perhaps 10 sessions or more). It's a lot bigger than the pictures in the ad lead me to believe, but that's a good thing. It can hold a lot at once and reduces the processing time by half or more. Not only does using this unit free up the stove for food prep, but it also eliminates the risk of boiling water accidents and keeps the temperature and humidity in my home lower than when canning on the stovetop. From the auto-release valve to the built-in safety features, you can feel safe when pressure cooking or canning. squeezing the lid shut to keep the steam inside On the back, there is a condensation catcher. Everything had been considered by Carey. Even if you only use it once or twice a year, it's a must-have appliance. EDIT: br>br> I'd also like to point out that I read a review on here about it being messy when you pressure can, and even after using it all day, we didn't have the mess they depicted in their review. During processing, the bypass pressure vent hisses out steam, and small water droplets occasionally build up and out, but none that make it onto the lid or the countertop. On the back of the lid, there is a small clear capture canister. It didn't even fill all the way up after all of the pressure canning and canning we did in that photo. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> We've had this pressure cooker/canner for over six months and have put it to good use. We've created a pressure-resistant material in large quantities. In less than 10 minutes, you can have a fully cooked chicken breast. In this thing, we made the best pulled pork we've ever had. My only regret is that I did not purchase one of these years ago. br>br>Update number two: Now that I've had the property for more than two years, I'm having some issues. free! We use it to can once a year and on and off for various recipes about once a month. We've been pressure cooking three slabs of baby back ribs for about 40 minutes, then tossing them on our smoker grill for about 20 minutes, then lathering them in BBQ sauce for another 10 minutes or so over an open flame for the best ribs ever!.

With disabilities, pressure canning is used
5/5

My Carey Smart Pressure Canner is one of my favorite kitchen appliances. I've only used it for pressure canning so far, so I can't comment on its other capabilities. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and I've been unable to use my large All American as my disease has progressed. My All American is sorely missed, but this Carey is incredible. I'm grateful that I don't have to babysit it because I can use it at home. Some may bemoan the fact that it only can 4 quarts at a time, but I say 4 is better than none, and that's how much I was getting done before I got this electric canner. It has been a huge help to me and has allowed me to reclaim a small part of my life that MS had attempted to rob me of. br>I've been using it for about ten months and haven't had any issues with it. All of my usual habits have been put on hold: Beef, venison, chicken, bone broth, soups, stews, and beans, to name a few. There are no problems; if you're interested, I have a review on my YouTube channel - Heritage Homestead is a historic homestead in the United States. Thanks!.

You would be rolling the dice
3/5

I can not believe that the canner has a 70% 5 star rating, because there must be people who reviewed it too soon, or never used it. br>Mine lasted less than 40 days and was only used five times before shutting down. br>Amazing concept, but only for a short time. br>Until they produce better quality for your dollar, this item is a waste of your money. br>I'm still surprised at how many positive reviews there are. br>I treat my tools and appliances with great care, and I buy quality items that will be used. br>As a result, you can see why I expect it to work more than five times. Yes, a lemon can happen, but something with this many 5 stars should be covered for more than 30 days in case of return or exchange. br>br>Additional information to the original review br>I can't speak to the unit's long-term dependability; I could have simply received a defective unit. br>However, it is possible that the company's return policy has changed. br>I contacted the company, who asked that I unplug the canner and email a photo, and they replaced it for free. br>At the very least, they deserve to be taken into account when it comes to making the right purchase. br>I did purchase a second canner, which appears to be in good working order. br>I thought the company deserved a fair review. br>To summarize, the canner is fantastic when it comes to working. br>It's simple to use, cans smaller amounts, and the unit is large. br>It was the electronics that went wrong.

When the screen says "E10," don't press the reset button
5/5

Carey is my absolute favorite. The only source of ambiguity is people who do not read the directions completely. During the heating process, an "E10" will appear on the screen, and the countdown to "E0" will begin. The machine is VENTING, which is an essential function. People mistakenly believe that the "E10" sign means "error. " It's not the case. The "E" stands for EXHAUST, and the toggle must be set to Exhaust. Before canning, any pressure canner must "vent" for 10 minutes. Carey will beep after 10 minutes to remind you to switch to Airtight mode. Then leave the rest to Carey. Purchase a surge protector and ensure that the toggle is set to Airtight when you turn it on. Read the instructions one more time.

I would strongly suggest it
5/5

To be honest, I haven't explored all of this appliance's capabilities. It was mostly for canning purposes that I purchased it. This sounded like a good buy to me as someone who used to can a lot of food from our garden and needed to downsize. I've never been let down. This makes canning a breeze, especially when working with small batches. It's fantastic, and I strongly suggest it. I'll be able to clean out my small appliance cabinet if the other features are as simple and produce the same results. There have been no complaints in the second year of operation!.

This is simple pressure canning at its finest! Fill your jars to the brim with your favorite ingredients
5/5

Without this, I'm not sure how I ever got through harvest season. This is simple pressure canning at its finest! Fill your jars, set the timer, add 4 cups of water, close the lid, and press the start button; all you have to do now is wait for a beep, close the exhaust, and continue on your way. No more babysitting the canner, which means more time with the family!.
