I'm sure you could, but it doesn't have the same length as a bread knife, and it slices tomatoes beautifully! I've purchased a number of them as gifts.
There is no shield or cover on this knife, which is a shame.
The blade is 4 inches long, and the handle is 4 and 3/4 inches long, and both are made of hard plastic that cuts well.

This is the third Victorinox knife I've purchased. I had no idea what a tomato knife was because the other two knives sliced through tomatoes with ease. The tomato knife appears to be a tad thinner and more flexible than the other knives. It is now my preferred method of transportation. to a razor blade for slicing thin tomatoes without causing a shambles br>I don't like the handles on any of the three knives I own, but according to what I've read, there's a good reason for them being plastic. Given the quality of the handle and overall feel of the knives, you almost wouldn't expect them to be so sharp and cut so well. They cut amazingly well compared to the other knives in my drawer, and they're the knives I use the most. br>Buy Victorinox.
I'm very careful with this knife, but it does a great job of slicing. But all it took was a minor bump on the tip of my fingernail for it to be sliced off. To clean it, I run a dish brush with a drop of soap up and down the blade while holding it by the handle under hot water. I try to keep my fingers as far away from the keyboard as possible. When I clean it, I never use a dishrag. I blotted it dry by laying it flat on a towel.
This is one of my favorites. I'm not sure how long this will maintain its edge, but at this price, I'll be satisfied if it lasts a few years.
Wavy serrations on the Victorinox do an excellent job on tomato skin. It's also a great way to keep bread fresh. I liked the Mercer's sheath, and it fits the Victorinox nicely. This makes it a great little travel knife to stow away in a checked bag.
This is an excellent tomato knife. Because my husband was constantly cutting other things with our old tomato knife, I ordered two. Slicing tomatoes is a breeze with it. Just take care! Because these little knives are SHARP, both of us have cut our fingers inadvertently.
We've never used a better vegetable knife. br>br>If you have a habit of peeling towards yourself, be cautious because the serrated edge has sharp teeth that can easily prick your thumb or other fingers. br>br>Stays sharp and useful for a long time; I've never tried to sharpen it because I'm afraid of damaging my whetting products; instead, I buy a new one every two or three years.
Other vegetables can be used as well. This baby is razor-sharp, so be careful.
Years ago, I bought this knife, thinking we'd scraped it into the trash and needed a replacement, so I bought this one. The second is just as good as the first. We found the first and now have two.
