Is Dexter Russell still alive?
As far as I know, no. The one I have is hung next to the butcher block in the kitchen.
As for cutting chicken and pork ribs, I have no problem using it, but I've never tried anything else with I find this cleaver to be ideal for my purposes.
Seven is the number of the blade. This knife measures 25" long by 4" high, and has a hard wood handle and a 6" thru tang. An OAL of 13 is required. The height is 25" and the weight is just 1 pound. The weight is 5 pounds.

From 9/30/2020 to I just noticed that the Amazon driver left my cleaver. I took it out of its packaging, and it has all kinds of scratches on it! Those snakes are all over that blade! They're hard to photograph and possibly to see in photos, but dang, they're everywhere! Is making America great again not the goal? What the heck? I provide you, Dexter Russell, with all kinds of positive comments and videos on my YouTube channel not once, but a dozen more times over the It looks like I can ease these machine scrape marks out by polishing them. I should not have had to do that. How do you control the quality of a vacation? **LOOKS MORE LIKE A 50/50 FACTORY 2ND than a li'l plant-2nd, that got put together on a Friday at 5pm, "beer-bowling? The number thirty. " In addition, it is so dull that it can hardly be believed. DEXTER WAS TOLD SENT EMAIL IMMEDIATELY AND GOT RESPONSE IMMEDIATELY. I was asked for my address. As far as I can tell, they are going to make it right. DO YOU KNOW YOU DIDNOT SAY THOSE WORDS? It is likely I will have to make changes to my review if this is so. **Spent several hours sharpening this chunk of steel. I felt a wet grit, but no edge to speak of. WERE OUT A LANSKY COURSE GRIT STONE, SO THAT IT COULD BE USED! The cleaver I needed had to be delivered as soon as possible. THE REASON I SPENT THE BIG BUCKS, when I could have gotten a used model on ''the bay. ANOTHER HUGE PLUS IS THAT I HAVE MANY, MANY DEXTER STUFF On my charter boat, I use Russell Knives for cleaning fish. It was used for splitting up frozen fish into chunks as well as for chopping up big blue crabs. It will be a pleasure to amend this later. - - -E EXTER PROFESSED TO MAIL EXTER ABOUT THE FLAWED DUBLE CLAWVER. They said they would take care of it. The words, ''we will send a new one which is unflawed'', were never said. As a result, I kind of just hung around. It has been almost ten days since our last meeting. The number zero. The following is my response E-MAILED OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN WITH ''REMEMBER ME?''? What's the big deal? I understand that this was yet another excuse, but I thought it was an interesting one. You should be able to get your cleaver back- IN THE GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL BE IN STOCK SO WE WILL SEND YOU ONE, BUT UNTIL THEY ARE, YOU CAN ORDER ONE. ''Yup, that's right. THE ONE WENT TO AMAZON AND THE ONE I GOT WILL MOST LIKELY FORGET ALL ABOUT ME AND THE DULL CRAPPY LOOKIN' ONE. It appears that UPS did send out the package. Comparatively to the crappy U. S. Postal Service. The US postal service should never be used again. (So I was very happy to finally have the new ''''''''''big, sharp''''' cleaver that does not have any machining marks on it. It's finally here! As for me, I will leave it at that, however, I did not expect to have such a rotten experience with the country's oldest manufacturing business. I have been promoting this via my YouTube channel for years, as well as in my fishing charter service.
It is a good size and shape and does not weigh too much. The grip is excellent. It is really not a good practice to put good cutlery in the dishwasher, but this cleaver will withstand it. Make sure you keep the handle away from the drying element when it is in the dishwasher.
I recommend this product to everyone.
In the past, I've always been impressed with Dexter Russell products, and I use many of their knives on a regular basis, but I am not satisfied with the blade quality of this cleaver. As it stands, the blade is so rough that I'll have to spend a lot of time on the whetstone before it can be used. Neither a hone nor a horn exists. An item like this at a flea market would be expected to be of this quality, but this was a brand new item.
Rusty heavy duty but will last a long time.
Our customers love this brand because it's so good.
It meets all of my quality and durability requirements. While attending college, I worked in the meat department of a grocery store. I used Dexter Russell products at that time. I can't go wrong with adding a Dexter Russell Knife to my home kitchen.
Despite the fact it does require some sharpening out of the box, this cleaver is great.
