Handy, functional, decorative, and whimsical are all words that come to mind when thinking of this item. In any baker's kitchen, this is a must-have item.
When venting double crusted pies, this tool comes in handy. Simply place the bird in the center of the pie and surround it with the filling and pastry top.
The bird's mouth releases steam, allowing steam to escape from your pie and preventing bubbles and juices from boiling over, as well as preventing a soggy pie crust.

Questions & Answers

Where did this come from?

I can't say for sure because I don't have the original box. I couldn't find anything made by Norpro on the "made in America" website, but I did find a couple of Norpro products on the "made in China" website, so I'm guessing they're made in China.

Is there any way to get this out before serving without ruining the pie's appearance?

It's about 1" x 1" wide, so your pie will have a 1 square inch hole in the middle.

Where does it come from?

For NORPRO, the Pie Bird is "made in Taiwan."

Where do they come from?

That's something I didn't consider when I placed my order! After doing some research, I discovered that it was made in Taiwan. To obtain this information, you must contact Norpro. I might not have bought it if I had given it some thought. Thanks.

Quality is excellent
5/5

It's impossible to say whether it works or not. At the end of June 2018, I purchased this for my wife. It appears to be well-made, etc. , but she has yet to bake me a pie for some reason. "What the hell is this?" she exclaimed as soon as she saw it. 'I told her,' she said. She thought it was an adorable concept. (She mentioned the "four and twenty" blackbirds, etc. ) I'm a little disappointed (considering taking a star off) that I haven't received any pie yet.

These Pie Birds are a force to be reckoned with
5/5

I've given many of these pie birds as gifts (baked in a homemade apple pie, of course), and they're a hit with everyone. They allow steam to escape from the pie, which aids in the proper baking of the bottom layer. They go especially well with a French apple pie. My daughter requested one for her Administrative Assistant, who bakes pies on a regular basis, and she reports that it was a huge hit! They are unfamiliar to many people. My mother, on the other hand, had them, and when I was a little girl, I was so impressed to see the finished pie and repeat the nursery rhyme about "four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie. " I usually pay more for these, so the price was excellent. I'm overjoyed that they've been advertised once more.

I received the ceramic pie bird within a few days of ordering it and was eager to put it to use
3/5

My previous one came from my grandmother in England, and it must have been an antique because I am 80 years old. Unfortunately, it was broken in transit during my move last year. I was pleasantly surprised to discover another on Amazon. It was not to be, however! I discovered it had cracked after using it in an apple pie I had baked, most likely due to the heat of the oven. It was clearly not made of the same material as its predecessor. The garbage can was the final resting place for this small bird.

It's cute and functional
5/5

This tiny bird is adorable! He's also fantastic at venting a pie's top crust. I've noticed that when I use my pie bird, the bottom crust does not become as soft and soggy as it once did. For the majority of my adult life, I've vented the top crust by pinching a few holes in it, and I'm so glad I discovered pie birds! Although removing it leaves a round hole in the middle of the pie, I'll gladly trade it for a better bottom crust!.

VERY OLD, BUT EXTREMELY USEFUL
5/5

THIS IS A FANTASTIC PIE BIRD. AFTER SEEING ONE IN THE OLD BUTTE CREEK MILL IN EAGLE POINT, OREGON, I DID SOME RESEARCH. IN THE 1800'S, YOU PUT ONE OF THESE IN YOUR FRUIT PIE BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE OVEN, AND THE PIE BIRD ALLOWS THE PIE TO BURP INSTEAD OF VOMITING OUT FRUIT FILLING TO BURN ON YOUR OVEN, I USE MINE VERY OFTEN. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK FOR USE THESE VERY OLD FASHIONED BIRDS.

Sturdy, witty, and practical
5/5

This little bird is both sassy and tough. He never complained as he assisted us in making four pies in two days. This would make a great gift for a pie maker in your life.

My spouse informed me that the only option was to
5/5

My spouse told me that the only way I'd get an apple pie baked for me was if I bought them a little blackbird. Within minutes, I was on Amazon, where I discovered this gem, and three days later, I was eating a slice of homemade apple pie. In general, I think it went off without a hitch.

This pie bird is absolutely adorable! When the finished pie comes out of the oven, this pie bird is not only adorable, but it also delivers on its promise: a well- Most people have never heard of a pie bird, so it makes for a great conversation piece

I've bought more as gifts to go with pie plates and other gifts. This is an excellent item.
