Ha, ha! "Made in China" is written on the side of my small bird box! Who would have guessed? It doesn't seem to matter where they were made because they work perfectly!
It doesn't have a whistle, and its sole purpose is to act as a vent.
You put it in the middle of the pie, fill it with your filling, and then cover it with your pie crust, which doesn't need to be poked with holes because it acts as ventilation. Steam escapes the pie through the bird's beak and then through the bottom of the bird. However, I would use a fork to make a few holes in the top crust. Just a little something to help the bird.
The place where the birds rest 3. At the tip of the beak, it measures 5 inches. The mouth hole is approximately 3 and 1/8 inch in diameter. I hope this information is useful.

They claim that all of these Le Creuset stoneware pie birds, regardless of color, are 5" tall, so I was very disappointed with this LITTLE bird. To work properly (and as shown in the pictures), you'll need to clear the tops of most pies. There are only three of them. They come in a box that says they're 5" tall. MISTAKENLY REPRESENTED! They also claim to be guaranteed for life--this is not the case. In the lower description, there is only a 5-year guarantee. They must assume that the public and bakers are unconcerned. Amazon Prime is a lifesaver!.
It's exactly what it says it is. The bottom opening is larger than most, which is a good thing. If the bottom opening is too small, the pie filling will clog it up and the entire process will fail. This one is large enough to allow heat to pass through while still performing its function. It's tall enough to hold standard pies. br>br> It doesn't have to stick up 2 inches above the crust; all it needs to do is stick out its beak. br>br>On a regular pie, this would be up to the neck.
Before I grew up and started my own family, my father was a baker, and I helped him make hundreds of pies. I first learned about these birds a few years ago, and now I own four of them (three Le Creusets and one different one). I have one that isn't a Le Creuset, and this year I compared the two. Because the Le Creuset is not completely flat on the bottom, it has curves. While the pie is baking, the curves allow more heat to escape through the bird's mouth. I had never noticed the curves until this Thanksgiving (because I had been practicing making blueberry pie for several weekends prior to the holiday). There is a significant difference between these and cheaper alternatives. My homemade pie crust isn't soggy on the bottom anymore, and I'm confident that my pies have improved as a result of this and the fantastic silicone edging protector I purchased on Amazon. These adorable little birds are a must-have for any fruit pies you bake!.
$10 for a pie bird from Le Crueset. 12" pie with 30 ounces of cherry filling, 21 ounces of blueberry filling, and 1 pound of blueberries 5 cups blueberries, 8 oz cream cheese, not bubbling over the edge of the pie dish into the oven Without a doubt. There's no need to bake on a cookie sheet and hope that it doesn't spill into the oven, which it almost always does. br>I cut a perfect hole in the center with a chapstick lid for the head to protrude from.
I just got this little bird in the mail today - It's well-made, and it sits in my kitchen looking adorable. With the warmer weather, I've been on a pie-making kick, and I'm excited to try this out. I'll be sure to update my review once I do. br>br>The bird is hollow but solid, allowing it to collect and release steam. If you're not feeling creative enough to just dive in, it comes with very detailed instructions on how to use it, including how to pierce the top crust. I've been pleased with every purchase I've made from Le Creuset, and this is no exception. It's 3 1/2" high, according to the box, and can be used between 500 and -. The temperature is 65 degrees Fahrenheit. There's also a five-year guarantee, according to the website. br>br>If you enjoy whimsical items in your kitchen, this bird is for you! I got the white one, but I'm thinking about getting the red and blue ones as well. br>br>**UPDATE*
I made a strawberry pie a few days ago with this little bird. I put the bird on the bottom layer of crust and surrounded it with strawberries because it was a double crust pie. When I applied the top layer of crust, I pushed it down over the bird's beak to allow the pie to vent properly, leaving the bird's little head poking out of the center. It tolerated the 450°F oven temperature (to set the bottom crust) and the remaining 45 minutes at 350°F without complaint. br>br>I cleaned it in the dishwasher in the silverware rack (it's a little too small to fit anywhere else) and it came out spotless. Surprisingly, due to the way it's designed to sit on the bottom crust and have the filling placed around it, it never got very dirty. I noticed that when I used this bird, the pie seemed to vent better - All of my previous pies with fork prick vents only bubbled up to a certain extent through the sides of the crust. That was not an issue with the maiden bird pie. When the bird is removed for cutting, it leaves a hole in the middle of the pie. br>br>The only disadvantage is that the bird leaves a hole in the middle of the pie. However, if you enjoy pie, you'll be too preoccupied with cutting a large slice to notice.
He's 62 years old and had no idea there was such a thing. He was taken aback by how well it functioned. The Flame color is one of my favorites, and it goes well with my other LaCruset cookware. My purchase has made me extremely happy.
This Pie Bird was a lovely gift for a minimalist friend of mine, and it's easy for her to display in her kitchen because it's so beautiful and classy. It's high-quality and practical for baking pies because it's made by Le Creuset. It was difficult for me to part with it. I wish I had ordered one for myself at the same time, and I will most likely do so in the future.
There will be no more soft, difficult to remove crust from the pie plate. Simply put this little guy in the center of the pie and leave him there until you're ready to cut it.
