Ade Advanced Optics RHB-10ATC-1 0-10% ATC BRIX Refractometer 4 Sap, CNC Coolant

My goal is to check the sugar content of sap from my maple trees using this tool. This tool has been highly recommended in comments on this website. It is advertised that the tool is calibrated to distilled water at 68°F, and has a degree-range from 50°F to 90°F. The tool is way too high so that I cannot reliably determine what trees are sweetest year after year, while I had hoped to use it on the field. I think this is unacceptable for a range of 1% to 4% (the range of my trees). How did I come to this conclusion? The refractometer I've been using is about 2% higher and I've used a sap hydrometer for years in the field and I've compared the 2 tools' field (outdoor) performances. I have both instruments lining up when I bring sap in the house (close to 68 degrees). Temperature compensation is supposed to be built into this device (i. e. At least for the 50 degree range that I need for my typical field measurements, it doesn't appear to be the case, and I'm not about to travel back and forth between the house and the field to check each tree individually. Maple season is over when it is 68 degrees outside! It would be great if someone from the review board could provide some.

It is used to test the concentration of water - An aluminum based coolant is used for CNC mills. Since using it a few years ago, I can't think of any Calibration holds and that's pretty much all there is to it, so it's nothing too difficult. They're pretty simple so no need to spend so much money on them as some others.

I bought it to measure maple sap's sugar content. The RO I am monitoring is small and I didn't want to waste a lot of time and money on it. The sugar concentration in water was tested with sugar levels of 0%, 3%, and 8%. I was able to set the zero correctly and it was dead on. There was only one negative comment I could make, and that was that the manual had been left out, but everything else, including the pipette and screw driver for adjusting the zero, was included. As it was on sale for $14, I can't complain too much. It feels solid and well made in your hand, as well as being well made.
