In certain situations, it can be a useful unit. Because it is weak magnetized, it can easily fall off between measurements as a safety feature. But, the instrument is still secured in place and can still be measured firmly. It is possible that for some purposes you might want the version with a stronger magnet, or maybe even both, since each has its own purpose. The fine adjustment is nice, but it requires you to mount the magnet at the right angle for the adjustment. This isn't an option if your arm segments are rotated If you need to achieve the maximum range of motion, you will need to rotate the fittings and segments since the ball joints only have one cut out for articulation.
Indeed, it is compact, but I should have read the fine print. The item is not much larger than my hand. It was too expensive for me to buy. Since they are only 2 inches long, I am limited in what I can do with these little guys.
While a bit on the high side, considering its quality, it is well worth the money. This was my main concern when I bought it, because the dial indicator is attached to the base instead of the head where the micro adjustment is located. I have used the kind with the micro adjustment on the head, and it's hard to "zero" it out when you are comparing The number "0001"). It's easy to take care of that with this little base! (Even when the knob is in the microposition there is no vibration at all.
Although small, the indicator holder has many of the same great features that are found in Noga's larger holders, and it is of the same high The purpose of my application is to use two of them as a "third hand" for electrical soldering, with two alligator clips mounted where the dial indicator normally sits.
A Noga is said to be the best. It is made well and will last a lifetime. Having some alternative tips on how to hold it would be nice. As an owner of a Starrett, I can say that these both perform and look very similar.
I'm a big fan of Noga how, simply because their products are so good. It took me a minute to get used to not bumping on.
It has the right size for setting up a dial indicator to measure bellhouse runout.
It does not have the strongest magnet but it is still adequate for what it is meant for.
It's hard to beat these Nogas for lock up a turn of the knob and they clip right on solid strong mount and once locked in place, they stay set for a very, very long time.
