Questions & Answers

I had no idea there were magnets that would stick to "non-ferrous metals." materials that are ferrous" Is it true if it's stated in the description?

I'm not going to be a fan of non-alcoholic beverages. ferrous. We'll look into updating it, as other sellers frequently load data that we don't have control over.

Is the fine-tuning mechanism made of plastic or metal?

Metal is used for the two adjustment knobs near the indicator. This indicator holder will not leave you disappointed.

Will the 3/8" stem hold a gauge in this holder? Besides lug back gauges, what else do you have?

Yes, I use this holder to hold different indicators by the stem or dovetail.

It's well-machined and does exactly what it's supposed to do
4/5

I was torn between spending twice as much on a Mitutoyo articulating arm and buying one of the cheap magnetic base arms available for $25-$50. $40. After reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did it in the end. I've never owned a Noga product before, but it's well constructed. The machining quality is excellent, as are the results obtained when measuring Ring with a Starrett dial indicator. Pinion backlash was a very repeatable phenomenon. Overall, I'm pleased with the product, but the advertised magnetic force of the magnetic base falls short of what I expected for such a large force number. It does the job well and produces consistent results, which is all that matters in the end, but the magnetic base's holding force fell short of the advertised number.

With the exception of the clamp, everything is in good working order
3/5

This is a significant improvement over the Grizzly Chinese cheapo. The magnet is much stronger and the arms are much more rigidly locked. When I place a small weight on the arm, it deflects 1/10 as much. br>br>However, the clamp is cheap and poorly made, not even comparable to the Grizzly's. Because the 3/8" hole is too small, I have to force my indicator into it when I attach it. I'm thinking of reaming it to size rather than returning it, but it's always a bummer when I have to modify a tool before I can use it.

5 STARS! AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESO I'm getting into hobby machining, and I've only heard good things about Noga dial gage magnetic bases
5/5

I was so sure of these that I ordered two of them. They're as good as they're made out to be: This is an AMAZING program. It's a joy to use because there's only one knob to adjust the whole arm. In addition, the fine tip adjustment knob is very useful. (My only quibble is that adjusting the arm position right out of the box is a bit stiff. ) Spend a few minutes disassembling, lubricating, and reassembling your device. It's like buttah once you put it together and rotate the arm a few times. ) If you're undecided about which dial gage base to get, try these. I believe they will be an excellent addition to your store.

Is it worthwhile to spend the extra cash vs
5/5

one that is low-cost (I had a cheaper but very similar unit before that failed. ) I wish I had bought this one the first time. All of the hydraulic fluid has leaked out, and there appears to be no simple way to fix it. ) It's sometimes worth it to spend a little more money on something that will last longer. If you're going to do any kind of reasonable machining - even if you're only a weekend tinker like me - A nice indicator stand, such as this one, is a must, and it's still a lot less expensive than some of the other name brands out there, especially since it comes with the magnetic base.

Choose the best; they're simple to position and keep tight without flexing
5/5

Noga bases are by far the most popular on the market, and with good reason. The on/off magnet is extremely powerful, and the bottom has been contoured to grab round surfaces. This model is the third of four sizes and is the most commonly used. Model DG61003 has thinner arms and is about 2" shorter. That one is just as sturdy as the other, but it's a lot easier to maneuver in tight spaces.

The magnet should be bigger and stronger
4/5

This is a very sturdy stand that does a great job, but the magnet is a little too easy to move when the arm is extended, which is my only complaint. It's clear that they essentially took their standard model and beefed up the arm, but not the magnet to match. When using the indicator, it's not a big deal, but when positioning the base (even if it's locked down), the leverage of the extended arm can easily move it.

The quality and versatility can't be beat
5/5

This foundation has made a huge difference. It's easy to set up and take down. I was used to the older style bases before purchasing this one, and I will never go back. The magnet is extremely powerful and adheres to any surface it is placed on. Any machinist looking for a new base should look into this. All of my expectations have been exceeded.

This is an excellent tool for the job
5/5

During shipping, I'm guessing, the tool was battered pretty badly. It appears that it has been pounding around in the tool box for some time, unprotected, because the shipper didn't properly package it and UPS handled it roughly. They still work and appear to be in good condition, so the damage appears to be minor. It's a bummer, but what can you do?.
