Questions & Answers

Are there any plans to hold instruments with 3/8" stems in this case? Where does the word "approximately" come from?

My 3/8 dial indicator will not fit into the holder I ordered. It is a very small hole at only 8 mm in diameter and it has very small dial indicators at I use a calculator with a 52 mm (3/8) screen. This is not something that can be pryed open, and I am not certain that there is enough metal to drill it out. Though I like the way the arms hold, I have a hard time determining a solution to the problem of My plan is to return the dial indicator since it would only add to the cost.

The connection between the arm and the base has a thread size of what diameter?

My knowledge of the topic is limited. At the base of the table, it is solid. The book is not recommended for purchase. NOGAs are easy to get

Can you make one with a 3/8-inch hole instead of the 8mm one?

It is easy to drill out to 3/8 as the metal is aluminum, and it took me only a few minutes.

Are you able to remove the magnet base and use it with ?

A ball swivel mount is mounted at the magnetic base. Assuming that it was used in a chuck or collet, it would not be very stable or accurate.

The 8mm metric feature is described as follows The sizes used here are not suitable for US customers
3/5

While the listing does not mention it, this is an 8mm clamp, which works for all types of metal products. Shops that measure in metric.
Those in the US who have 3/8" mounting hardware and dials will not be able to use this arm. There should have been a statement in the listing.

Check that you have an indicator of the right size
5/5

It is therefore likely that some of you will make the same mistake I did. Even without considering the clamp diameter of this holder, which is 8mm. Other comments had pointed out that this would mean your 3/8 inch freedom indicators would The fine adjustment screw can be used as a mount for the indicator, but if you do, you lose these fine adjustments. I was able to dill that 8 mm to 3/8 with no problems, but it is not at all difficult to do that.

It is difficult to tighten the ball when it has low holding power
3/5

I am sadly forced to give this issue to you. To have dial indicators, you need a fail and a hard pass. Although I was looking forward to using this base, it has a serious slipping/moving problem when the The picture is after it has been modified. I received both of them in this way. For some reason all these cheap mag bases come with that issue, but that's an easy fix after just a few minutes with a good flat file and wet sand paper on a surface plate and will greatly improve Here is a picture of the base after it has been leveled, not the way it was previously. There is a 8mm hole and it must be drilled out (see pictures) for it to work (use reamer as well, if possible), but it's a very simple process and there is just enough room left for the dovetail holder. This base was modified to hold a GoforWild USB battery. It was difficult to move a headlamp from machine to machine (see pictures)

The major problem was that the ball joint would easily slip no matter how hard it was tightened. There is oil on it when it is shipped, so it is After washing it with rubbing alcohol it still seems to slip under light loads. My good dial indicator certainly would not be held by it for 1 minute Errors show up when it moves (badly) as follows If your dial indicator falls and hits something, you stand a good chance of damaging it. There is no guarantee that it will hold up In addition to thread glue, I had to use a lot of While my Noga mag base far exceeds mine in terms of quality (no comparison) and my lower-cost AGPtek mag base, which I bought here on Amazon, shows excellent durability, holds dial indicators solidly and does not slip After sending the first one back because it slipped, I returned the second because it was no better but I couldn't return it because I had flatter I have a Starrett 657 with a much stronger base than my similar sized Starrett. I'm going to adapt a USB rechargeable headlamp to it for my mill, if it can hold one. For those who want to modify the holder with a different thread, the female thread for the small ball is M5. There is nothing the seller can do, it's a design flaw in the manufacturing process. I gave two stars to the seller because he replaced the first one with a second one blazingly fast. Based on its own merits, the base deserves 0 I would give it one star, at least based on.

This versatile mag base can be used by machinists and prototyping houses Such a situation occurs all the time! The mag base is versatile and of the highest quality for machinists and prototyping The following are examples of this type of situation
5/5

Despite the fact that the indicator mount is designed for metric (8mm) mounting pins, it is an excellent value. This magnet base serves both purposes for me it works well in my machine shop, where I use my indicators, and in my lab where I prototype The types of various optical and mechanical setups I have collected. I own five of them. I use two of them in my machine shop to hold dial indicators and trams in mill heads, vises, etc. With a depth indicator, I can visualize the exact depth of any operation I am performing. At the same time, I tend to use five of these at once in my lab With padded feet, I built a steel platform with dimensions of 12" x 12" x 1/4". I can place these mag bases on this platform, attach lasers, mirrors and other optical components to them, and adjust every optical component as needed to create any scenario I want, even X-rays You can use this mag base for both X and Y laser scanning setups. As you slowly tighten the main knob, every joint on this mag base is tightened, enabling the assembly to attain a precise angle from the base to the end point where the indicator When you firmly tighten the knob and the whole thing is stable and firm, you should be able to move it. You can't move anything unless you bump it really hard. Of course, you can also adjust right at the indicator mount if you want to be careful. It's great how these things work! The quality is excellent and the design is well done!.

Excellent holder at a great price
5/5

It's a nice little dial indicator holder, or really just a holder for many things, really. It was a little strange to find a 8mm hole, but my dial indicator has a mounting hole on the back, so I removed the locking screw and inserted it into the mount and on the threaded side of one of the arms. You gain another point of articulation by doing this.

It is not a standard device but a metric one
3/5

The magnetic base is a product that rarely gets a bad review, but I think it deserves your I think it would make a very fine addition to any store. It is very well made and finished. Although I have some gripes, there are also some positives in there. This issue arises when you put the standard indicator on top of I had purchased another magnetic base that had the same size mounting hole as the dial adapter on it. figured I could make another adapter since the one that came with the base wasn't included. However, as I continued to examine the situation, it dawned on me that the adapter wouldn't work anyway, since that would put the fine adjustment to the side and make The whole thing should have been easy, but I decided to drill the hole out bigger (by 2mm) would weaken the aluminum too much, so now I have to create another mount. . . . I'm afraid I won't be able to include this on YouTube. Despite the size of one hole in the indicator arm, I am prepared to give this product three stars because it is a very nice magnetically operated indicator arm, and using only one hole would not be too unfair to the manufacturer.
