If it is an iron block, it will be strong enough. What about aluminum? It may be possible. The purpose of my application was to measure the runout of the rear wheel of a motorcycle (BMW R1150RS) in relation to the final drive housing. In order to clamp the magnet to the Vise Grip I clamped a handy bolt in the housing and attached it to the housing with a Vise Grip. Less than one mil was the repeatability of the measurement. If the block is aluminum, you could connect an iron or steel plate that's bolted to the top into stud holes and bolt it to the top. As long as you get the same accuracy as the dial indicator itself, you should be able to make it work. (If you do this with the head in place, a screwdriver or socket extension inserted in the spark plug hole will give you a
0 is the dial reading on my caliper. There are 467 inches in it. It is impossible for me to measure with a micrometer, but I expect the reading to be within +/-1.6 The total amount is 2 mil. Whether that means it will fit in a router's 1/2-inch collet I'm not sure.

Despite its potential, the dial indicator makes it unusable. The video doesn't appear on Amazon nor have I been given permission to links to it, but it's on that one major video site, just search In addition to the magnet not holding up well on vertical surfaces, the spring joint pin comes out, the base joints wobble and slide, and the dial indicator itself is hard to adjust. What bothers me most is the boss in the back of the dial indicator. Although the nut is extremely tight, the indicator is susceptible to wobbling, giving inaccurate readings even when it is tightly tightened. An accurate, precise, and repeatable measurement is one of the tasks you would expect of a precision measuring instrument. Its sole task is to perform that task.
Due to the fact that, as you can see from the picture, there is no spring in the dial indicator attaching arm, and I did not want that type. The rods were both solid, so it made sense to buy this. I had bought two units for a job, but both came with the spring style I didn't You will find that spring loaded rods aren't mentioned anywhere in the description. Having to make new rods to use these just so I could use them too, was tedious. Moreover, the magnets are not so powerful.
This has five stars on NetRatings because it appears to be worth the price and work as expected on the other hand, it would be disingenuous to give it a low score since I was the one who made the mistake. I wish I could help other people not make the same mistake as I did There is a problem, because I have aluminum feed tables on my Porter Cable Jointer but this has a magnetic base, so it's back to the drawing board. As it was not prime, 1/3 of its price would have been shipping, which would mean I would have to pay for returning it, which is not worth the effort and costs, so I guess I have a nice new dial indicator to use?.
In addition to being as sturdy as the commercial units I used at work and functioning as they do, it was very satisfying to see that it was sturdy. Having used one before, I found it to be just like the more expensive ones in every way. I had no problems at all and got things done the first time and double and triple checked everything. I did not experience any issues. No matter how long I may have to wait before I need it, it's nice to have a good one in my arsenal of instruments!.
I would like a stronger magnetic base, but it works well. Where you install it needs to be watched closely to make sure it does not come loose. I assume all- All in all, it is a fairly good tool for a reasonable.
It took just five minutes for the break to happen. My fine tuning screw stripped the threads of the metal into which it goes, and a clamp that clamps to the indicator cracked when I hand tightened If you want your first day to go well, spend more than you think.
This is a good value for money product. The gauge must come with instructions on how to mount it. In the end, it took me 20 minutes to realize I didn't need the insert collar to use Aside from that, it'll do just fine!.
