Questions & Answers

When the arms are extended, how long are they?

A little more than two inches separate the two arms. With about ten pounds of pull, it is quite strong. My little base is great. I use it almost every day. I love the price. I hope you find this helpful.

You might be able to unscrew the magnetic base of the clamps and use them with threaded vice grips instead?

You can certainly do so!

For this price, I realize this magnetic base is probably not as good as we would like. Can you tell how decent the arm is? Are you able to lock it up?

A good amount of lock is achieved by the arm. Light pressure, like that used for a dial indicator or test indicator, does not produce any movement.

I don't think it's much bigger than a The update is In that case, I flattened and squiggled We squared up the magnetic layer and it made a big difference, and the magnetic base now works pretty good in spite of its size
3/5

We improved the locking mechanism for the arms and it does get all joints locked together at the same time, and when tightened it prevents the arms from moving. The tightening mechanism modulates well when the arms are loose, so you can easily adjust the position to suit your needs. When the magnetic base has been cleaned and squared, the power of the magnetic base is dramatically increased, and it is not easily moved, and it also works well on a column in a drill press. You can get a pretty decent price if you can flatten and square up the base. My original comment I just received this item (11/2015) and I agree with what others have posted in previous comments that it appears to be small and that the mounting surfaces are uneven. It is actually very hard to machine, and the surfaces are far from flat, that creates the biggest problem or defect in the magnetic surfaces. The magnetic holding ability is impaired because the surfaces are not flat, which defeats the purpose of magnetic holding I was surprised at how easily it pivots, rocks, twists, and moves. The front on off label has already peeled away at the corners, so you can see the The arms can hold pretty well, but work best if they are tightened when the magnet is turned on, though even that causes the base to My plan is to mill the surfaces flat and see what results I get It shouldn't require me to do that, but what do you expect for 14 bucks for something desperately seeking to be a NOGA? However, the packaging has already been thrown out, so I was not able to return it. A magnetic holder would not be recommended if you are going to use it with a dial or need it to be accurate, but if you are going to use it as a light or an eye shield, it should work fine. In addition, the mounting hole at the end of the arm is not imperial in size, but rather metric. It is 8mm in diameter, as specified in the descriptions above. You will have to trust the previous comments left by previous buyers as quoted above. I have included photo's to show scale with a 6" square but it is hard to show the quality of the surface.

NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT THE FULL-TEXT AS A "STANDARD HOLDER", THIS IS THE SIZEONE WOULD EXPECT! As soon as I opened the shipping box I was shocked, but also amused by the Product Box
3/5

You could use it for a nursery or tool room. When complete, the holder will measure about four inches high, so you won't be using it as an "emergency dial. " There is no point in attaching a magnetic base DIRECTLY onto a spindle unless it is already on the tool holder. This design is small and lightweight, which is perfect for smaller bores - it will set "zeroes" off extra precisely This information also works great for the company's "Cheapo Knock- Off" It takes a true holder to turn them off! far, I am more satisfied with this item than I am dissatisfied with it. The music is all good and groovy, man/lady. ".

This is what I bought - Better quality than the previous version
3/5

I also have a very small one like this one. The product is poorly The label is peeling off and the paint is chipping. The base of the mag is uneven on the bottom The files carry a lot of information. Another one is available for $4 more, and I purchased it- The quality of the film is better. I also have a very small one like this one. Anodizing red is not possible as it is spray paint.

There's a better option out there
3/5

This is straight copy/paste from their poorly translated item details, well, I should have bothered even reading it Despite its small size, the magnet is not very powerful. "If you have a magnet attached and a flat surface that is steel, it is easily knocked over with a dial indicator attached". Get one that works like the one described, don't waste your time trying to figure out how it works. The magnet was low in strength, the construction was poor, and the overall opinion was Restoring it is going to take some time.

It is unclear what is being Unlike the stand in the picture, this box is very small
4/5

It has a footprint of about 1-foot by 1-foot. A 3/4" BY A 1 A 18th inch. About 5" is the length of the arm. Clamp is for 1/4" shaft (6mm? it does not fit a standard 3/8" diameter It fits easily into the dial gauges I have. It has a solid base and locking arm for its size. I made a simple adapter, so it can attach to the dial gauges I have and it works well.

A good job on the It seems to be a good buy
4/5

It consists of a magnet There needs to be more tension in the locking knob. Despite being stiff, the design seems to be extremely flexible and has an extensive It consists of a magnet It is too easy to knock off the locking knob I tend to leave it on all the time anyway, so I don't find it an issue when I deal with it. The position is locked when I handle it, but not when I use it.

bad It Won't Stay Erect
3/5

The AGPtek 3 doesn't stay upright. In the case of the Joint Red Adjustable Magnetic Base Holder I received, there was not enough magnetism to hold up a 2" dial indicator. A holder holding the dial indicator kept tipping over when attached to the cast iron head stock of a lathe. I have been doing this for decades With a 7" post rod, a 7" extension rod and indicator on the end of the extension rod, the Mighty Mag holder does not suffer from this problem. It has been an AGPtek base holder, so I'm returning it and buying another one. Produced by manufacturer. It's a MOTY mag.

There was no flat surface on either side of the base The wobble is caused by this
3/5

Upon getting this into the shop and trying to lock it into place and placing the dial indicator-which also won't fit-I make a mistake. I didn't read the description so the base might have wobbled, but that's maybe my fault. It sounds good). have tried the other side and it works as well. A high point on both sides causes it to wobble. It was time-consuming to sand it down, but I realized it wasn't worth it after only a few minutes. The dial indicators on my dials do not fit in this end connection, and the reach on this thing is pretty slim. Small-scale agriculture is the primary focus of the project Hobby piece that takes a lot of time.
