Averaging 2.4 on the scale, I agree with you. smaller diameter requires the use of a more controlled heat source, including a torch or oven. In water or humidity, there is not going to be a significant buildup of nickel or titanium. No material surfaces are exposed to corrosion or oxidation other than the surface. To shape the material into a hard angle, it is impossible. Using a vise grip or a pliers can provide you with good angles or they will circle them. Even if you don't have as much time, you'll feel better after shaping.

A wire of this kind was needed so that my son would be able to work with metals, as expected it worked just as he anticipated.
