Smaller sizes can be cut with diagonal cutting pliers using a bandsaw or lathe.
No, they appear to be pure, and buying brass ingots would probably be cheaper. This is a set of fine tolerance rods for pinning cutlery handles (knife, sword, and axe).

Swpeet changed the product description after I purchased a set of brass rods in October of this year - Despite the fact that the link in my previous orders list directs me to this page. I can only offer general advice in dealing with this company because I purchased brass rods that were sold with imperial measurements rather than the metric measurements they now advertise here. I would advise against buying from Swpeet if you require precision. br>br>The rods I received were measured as follows: br>The rods' lengths were all the same - 100 x 3 15/16" br>Diameters - 16mm 5/16" 7. br>br>br>br>br>br>br>b 15/64" 98mmbr> 4/16" 96mmbr>96mmbr>96mmbr>96mmbr>96mmbr>96mm 5/32" 3. 97mmbr> 7/64" 2. 98mmbr>98mmbr>98mmbr>98mmbr>98mmbr 3/32" 2. 97mm br>br>br>br>br>br>br>b 5/64" 1. 49mmbr>49mmbr>49mmbr>49mmbr>49mmb 97mmbr> 97mm 97mm 97mm 97mm 97mm br>In light of recent reviews claiming that the rods are 0. 01 millimeters off the mark, 02 or so, and after seeing what I got, I'm not sure if what they're selling is truly made to metric standards. The strangest thing to me is that instead of sending me two 14" rods, as advertised, they sent me two 15/64" rods. . . They were unusable for my purposes as handle pins for a pre-fabricated cabinet. Knife blank made of stainless steel that has been drilled and hardened. It's worth noting that if the rod was supposed to be 6mm in diameter, it's actually 0. 04 off. br>br>The bottom line is that if your project necessitates precise dimensions, you should look for shipping elsewhere. new br> new br>.
I had brass rods on hand from previous projects, but I needed them in metric sizes. These are the right size, but they're far too difficult to work with. id brass. I can nut my other brass rods with my hacksaw in seconds; these, on the other hand, are as hard as steel and take minutes to cut. Their color is also too yellow when compared to real brass rods, but it is consistent throughout the rod, so it worked for my project.
To mount wooden handles on a knife, I made some pins and collars, but one of the pins snapped during assembly. br>br>This substance isn't nearly as malleable as solid brass. Because it isn't tubular, it was given the name solid. br>Saving money is a smart thing to do. This is junk metal in the color of brass. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: Following up on my research, I believe this is a brass alloy with a very low copper content. Something along the lines of white brass. Alpha brass, a malleable brass with a high copper content, was exactly what I needed. Brass alloy is available in a variety of compositions.
Within 0. 2mm of the specified diameters Pretty good (but not fantastic). However, given the price, I'm willing to say they're decent: )br>br>While larger sizes are ideal for knife handle pins, smaller sizes will be kept on hand in case they're needed (perhaps for mosaic pins) in the future.
This kit of small brass rod is useful around the shop, though I wouldn't call it "lathe bar stock. " When it came to building model engines, I quickly realized how useful the selection was. The actual small size may surprise Americans due to the inch/metric conversion. Nonetheless, it comes highly recommended.
They're of good quality, work well for pinning knife handles, and are all the same size. As needed, I'll place additional orders.
This kit was purchased because I require a 5 mm set of axles for an RC build in a class I am currently enrolled in. The axles are made of solid metal and have been neatly stored in a case. I had expected them to be longer given the price, but that was my fault for not thoroughly reading the description. My only genuine gripe is that the axles were not sorted or labeled by size, but this was clearly not a problem.
The end result is fantastic. The quality is excellent, and it is precisely what I require. I only gave it 4/5 stars because Amazon thought it would be a great idea to ship the item in a flimsy envelope instead of a box, which meant that the plastic case containing the rods was smashed to pieces and the dowels were just rolling around loose in the envelope, despite being shipped the same day I received it. It would have been helpful to have the case.
