I'm new to knife making and didn't know where to start looking for rods other than a hardware store. I got this product as a recommendation because I buy all of my knife supplies from Amazon and I'm glad I did. I don't have to use copper wire anymore because the rods are truly brass and it comes with a case to store them.
The nearest hobby store (Hobby Lobby) is 40 minutes away; I've been there before and they don't have a lot of stuff. I ordered this, determined a suitable diameter, and cut it to length - Returning to the open road.
I know it's a simple product, but it's nice that they followed through on their promise. br>br>To drive out pins without leaving a mark, I use a General Tools pin vise (B000COYPG4).
Drifting punches that are just right.
I wasn't sure if I'd have to drill out the pinholes and resize them, or if the small pins would be too small. It worked out perfectly.
My machete now has a new handle. I placed an order for the brass round rods to be used as pins. They were ideal candidates for the task at hand. 👍.
I don't have any calipers to check the sizing at the moment, but they appear to be of good quality. br>However, the 5mm was a good fit for my knife blanks. It was less difficult to locate them than it would have been if they had gone looking for themselves. Woodcraft had mosaic pins in the right size for the knives, but I didn't like them. Solid Brass simply appears to me to be superior. I'll have to figure out what to do with the other sizes, but they should be useful. br>Because they aren't magnetic, I'm guessing they're brass. br>I took one star off because the packaging was in a soft envelope, and the plastic storage case for them was badly cracked; the case would have been nice to have intact.
I've used these for knife handle pins and they work great. I like the variety of diameters that are included because it gives you a lot of options.
