After cutting the holes larger with a box knife, I had to pound them into place with a hammer. The hex nut is a nut that has a hexagonal shape. The pole's vertical-holding bolt was not separated from the pole. The pole had to be held in place with locking pliers while the hex wrench was used to pry it apart because the pole wouldn't fit in the plastic base. I had to cut away some of the plastic with a box knife. To secure the pole, use a hammer to pound it into the base once more. To get the IV arm onto the pole, I had to cut the plastic as well. I've never been able to get one of the spring locks to open. With only one person holding it, I gave up. If you want your furniture to be easy to put together, don't buy it. easily irritate.
