I'm a mom/baby RN who has to do hourly neuro checks on patients who are on magnesium. The majority of the nurses on my floor perform these checks with the stethoscope's head. I did that for a couple of weeks during orientation and it was always so difficult! A preceptor suggested I get a reflex hammer like this after I tried hers and loved it. I'm now using this little hammer to find knee reflexes much more easily than I could with a stethoscope. I'm sure there are nicer ones out there, but this one is ideal for the basic assessment I require.
It appears to be identical to some I've previously ordered. However, the rubber material appears to be too light to make a good contact, and the handle is bent (twisted), so if you hold it correctly to strike a tendon, the head will hit the contact at an angle. Getting on my nerves! I'm hoping it's just that I got two bad ones in a batch. I'll have to look into replacing them.
This is for NP school, so I bought it. Worth it.
This was purchased for my ex-girlfriend because she required it for her nursing course. She gives it a big thumbs up! This appears to be an old-style neuro hammer with no frills that does the job it's supposed to do, and the price is very reasonable when compared to newer style hammers. It's all about the old school!.
Despite the fact that the head is light and bendable, it still has a reflex.
My knee reflexes are being tested as thoroughly as they were at my doctor's appointment.
In our house, there are a lot of guffaws!.
