br>br>I use these on my lathes, high torque commercial sewing motors, and I plan on cutting some to fit my milling machine. This way, not only will you have a flat bottom that matches, but you'll also have a better chance that the sides will match, and you won't have to shave as much to smooth out the bump that occurs when pressing them together. br>br>Almost forgot, I make the "hot knife" out of a broken hacksaw blade and a small HF butane torch. It performs admirably and is simple to use. br>br>Last but not least, smooth out the joining area and always test your belt with your safety glasses on. You wouldn't want a faulty weld to pop into your eye, would you?.
We were putting together a bike generator setup and needed an unusual length, but I didn't want to spend 35 dollars on it. When I've already spent a lot of money on other parts, I can't justify paying 45 dollars for an adjustable belt for our project. I was ecstatic to discover a less expensive but equally effective belt; we used up a few inches of the belt in practice to properly fuse the belt, but it has held up well for the months we've been running the generator. We even have extra belt for a future project!.
I was able to get it to work. It was a little challenging to get started, but it eventually came together. I used a torch to heat up an old hacksaw blade. I connected the two ends and slid them together. It stayed put for three minutes.
So far, I'm happy with this product; I used it to make a belt for an old metal lathe that's over 70 years old. With so many belt manufacturers, it's difficult to know the exact length of a belt. This product simplifies the process of getting a machine up and running again, as well as saving time and effort when replacing a belt.
It's simple to join the ends, and once they're connected, they're extremely strong. The rough surface reduces the need for extreme tightness. Thank you.
With a torch, light both ends, touch them together, and then extinguish the flame. DO NOT squish the two ends together. The bond between two people is as strong as the material.
Cut to size and join the ends with melted butter. I used a soldering iron to complete the task. It takes some practice to get a good weld, but it's worth it. My homemade bandsaw was powered by the belt.
