Questions & Answers
They can be used with a torque wrench or any other type of socket. They're thick and well-made, so they'll be fairly accurate.
I'm fairly certain they're made in China, as are the majority of modern products. In any case, they're a good investment. I've used them on everything from lug nuts to lower control arm bolts and haven't had any problems; for $50 versus $400, this is the way to go.
When using a 6 point, you're less likely to round off the bolt, especially if you're using an impact gun.

Sockets from Tekton are excellent. that you'll be able to understand. br>br>This set is from their "old style" collection. The new ones are even better "the small" (smaller than 1/2"/13mm) sizes are slimmed down along 75% of their body along 75% of their body. These aren't it, but if I need a 1/2" impact, I'll get one of these. Usually, there isn't much of a problem with space. br>br>The only thing I'd change is the size of the ENGRAVED and highlighted markings. The new style ones have both, but the engraving is too small in my opinion, and once the printed marking wears off (which it will if you use your tools), you'll want to go back to the old style because they aren't engraved and/or you'll have to rely on the new style's too small engraved marking. br>br>However, if this occurs, I would contact Tekton, who, given their reputation for excellent customer service, may simply replace it. Yellow paint markers aren't available if they don't already exist. br>br>One of the main reasons I'm switching to Tekton is because of their excellent replacement guarantee. Simply contact Tekton online, take a photo, and they'll send you a replacement. They'll even pay for shipping on your replacement tool and won't ask you to send your old one. There are a few reasonable/negotiable exceptions, but no questions have been asked of me thus far. br>br>There's no need to deal with box store employees (cough, Lowe's and HD) who say things like "we don't replace tools for free/we don't exchange them here, you must contact the manufacturer. " " despite the fact that "hassle-free replacement" is printed DIRECTLY on their tool packaging and despite the fact that they are THEIR house brands. br>br>I can't wait a month for replacement day (cough SnapOn), and I haven't seen a MAC truck in a long time. Let's not even begin to discuss Craftsman. br>br>I'm not sure why these companies insist on using the legacy model of tool replacement (rather than Tekton's 21st-century approach), unless they don't want you to return the tool. Which means they have a "Tommy Boy" lifetime guarantee "printed on the box. " br>br>Imagine "it's written on the box. " However, you only have the printing on the box because their customer "service" is a "guaranteed (delete expletive) piece of (delete expletive). " "br>br>I've been gradually selling off my other brand "Lifetime" tools in favor of Tekton SK and a few other options. Because I believe "lifetime" refers to the time it takes to negotiate with them and (as Karen puts it) "THEIR MANAGER" to get replacements under THEIR WARRANTY/GUARANTEE terms. Tekton is like a breath of fresh air.
These impact sockets do a fantastic job. After a lot of use, there are no signs of wear or damage. The only thing I'd like to see changed is the socket size being engraved rather than printed. The gold tone printing will eventually wear off (so far there have been no issues). I would have paid a few dollars more for the set if the cost of etching or engraving identifier details on each socket had been included. UPDATE: TEKTON REPLYED TO THE QUESTION. Take a look at what follows. The information on each socket is engraved through the black coating, despite the fact that it appears to be printed on. I tried rubbing a WD40-soaked towel over the gold text to make it fade out, but it didn't work. The markings are bright and clean. To reflect this, I've changed my rating from four to five stars. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product and the price.
I'm writing a review before I use these because I'm sick of getting used automotive tools when I paid for new ones. I just opened this set, and several of the sockets were covered in motor oil, and a few of them had clearly been used a lot (as evidenced by the marring/'denting' around the tops). You could at least clean used tools before resealing the package if you're going to resell them as new. Torque wrenches, sockets, and bits, among other items, are frequently used and resold. After I've used these, I'll update my review to make it more accurate.
I'm glad I got this set, though! First and foremost, please know that I am a firm believer in purchasing American-made tools whenever possible. I looked at SK tools impact sockets when I was thinking about these, but they're like 5-dollars each. 6 times the price of these, and that doesn't include the larger 27,30, and 32mm sockets, which I would have had to buy separately for about the same price as this set. It was difficult to justify passing up this set in favor of others. So, having read all of the reviews, I decided to purchase the set. And it's a good thing I did! br>br>In terms of durability, I used the 14, 17, and 21mm sockets right away after receiving them in the mail. They removed the rusted bolts without rounding them or breaking them in any way. My home is in the Midwest, where we use salt and calcium chloride on our roads, so no matter what you do, your car will rust. These sockets are for use with my Snap On XT7100 1/2" snap ring drive impact gun, which has a reverse torque of 700 ft/lbs. Sockets were comfortable to hold, transferred torque well, and performed as well as my other USA-made impact sockets. br>br>My only complaint is that the sizes on the sockets should be stamped rather than laser engraved. I know from experience with other laser-engraved sockets that the etching does not last the lifetime of the socket, and that the more you use specific sizes, the faster the etching fades. So I'm going to buy a number stamping tool set and do it myself at some point. Another issue is that I wish they had a complete set. Because of the larger sockets, I chose this deep socket set, but they also have a 15 socket set that includes the 10mm, 16mm, 20mm, and 23mm sockets, which this one does not. So, I'll go ahead and purchase them separately. Well, Tekton only sells the 10mm and 16mm separately, which I did, and you must buy the 10-mm separately as well. If you want their 20mm and 23mm sockets, you'll have to buy the 24mm 15 socket set because they don't sell them separately! Again, it's not a deal breaker because I can buy them separately from my big box stores or here online; I just wish I could have a complete set of the same brand. br>br>Overall, this is an excellent set for the money; the black oxide coating can withstand a lot of abuse, and you can't go wrong!.
