I melted the nylon into the radiator and mixed it with the plastic. It did not, however, hold up. I was able to scrape it off with a utility knife after it had leaked and I had reinstalled it on the car. I used J B weld to replace the nylon that had been scraped off, and it is still holding. This gives me plenty of time to place an order for a new radiator. I tried the nylon on my headlight tab as well, but it didn't hold and easily fell off. Maybe I used it incorrectly, but there were no instructions, and it's not like I'm not familiar with plastic welding.
On an old JD gator, I used to weld the radiator. Multiple other products had failed due to a crack in the neck. I had the repair completed in a few hours, and I've been using the gator almost every day for the past month with no leaks. It was incredible to watch the plastic melt and bond with the welding rod after using a heat gun as instructed. I was able to save a significant amount of money on a new radiator because of this.
Fantastic product.
PA66 plastic can be tied with nylon zip ties just as well.
This weld has a lot of potential. To achieve better results, be patient and take your time when working on any project.
The final product is exactly as expected.
The typical 45-watt plastic welder does not get hot enough to melt thermoplastic nylon, which melts at 750 degrees Fahrenheit. I did as I was told. To effectively flow the solder, I used a 100 watt soldering iron. Join the two pieces of plastic with a weld.
