One of the good things about them is that they make beautiful looking and strong welds that beginners are guaranteed to find confidence in. It's very common for people to get discouraged and abandon the practice once they get started. Welders get encouraged once they make a couple good welds with these items, and they become good if not excellent! These rods are ideal if you want to use them outside as you don't need to worry about moisture like with the 7018 products.
As far as I am concerned, 7018's are still the go-to rod when doing heavy work, but for general repairs, I have found the 7014 to be easier to strike, flow more easily and penetrate quite well. I am not at risk of burning through lighter metals because I can turn the amps down. several different brands and while there are some I tend to steer clear of, Forney is a reputable brand.
I was shipped the welding rods and they arrived on time.
No damage is visible in the shipping package. Thanks. The plastic box containing the welding rods is intact, but the lid has been broken. The packaging and shipping probably made it look that way before it was packaged. Roda 7014 from Forney is a good rod that performs well. Both of these rods, as well as the 6013 rods, have been used many times without problems.
This is a really bad weld rod, you're better off buying Harris, Lincoln or Esab rods. I have a love hate relationship with 7014 but Forney gives me a good laugh when it comes to a product that burns like asbestos dipped rebar. When all they have to offer is low quality junk, it's hard to imagine how this name brand can have any recognition.
Rather than welding these, I knocked off the outer coating and used them as metal dowels to hold a 1 inch screen in place between a piece of wood that I had I have been using it for approximately 5 months now, and I am glad I did! They aren't rusting yet (and have not come out of place since I installed them did not coat the "dowels" in anything to prevent them from rusting from the inside).
It is quite easy to strike them, they have a nice bead profile, and they do not mind cleaning/prepping too much. Old buzzboxes with 80 amps of AC power still run well with 3/32.
New welders will appreciate this stuff as it's easy to figure out On the market, there are few better than this,.
These rods produce nice beads on crappy steel, even if I am a novice welder.
