In a very short period of time, my mine corroded and faded. After I got some replacement tips, I became religious about tinning the tip at the start and end of a session. It is always a good idea to unplug your computer if you are going to leave it for any period of time. I am not aware of any kind of heat regulation on these. The iron will dump all its power all the time, so if you leave it in the stand for a few minutes, the temperature will rapidly climb into the 900s. The tip will get eaten up quickly if you have several long sessions. The Radioshack hobby soldering iron that I bought several years ago was defective. I wanted to replace it with this product. This iron was great, but I had a synth that needed work.
