Questions & Answers

What are the lowest settings that would be appropriate for circuit boards? Does it really work that way? I heard that it could work but I wanted to double check. ?

Considering there is a heat source, I suppose it would work, but there is a risk of overheating It would be dangerous to leave the flame exhaust on at the tip of the propeller and you might fry the other parts.

Is this solder, and if so, what kind is it? Has the product been lead-free tested?

Lead-containing solder is used in this product. The ratio is 6040, which means 60 percent tin, 40 percent This is a Rosen core that helps to clean the connection as the solder is applied. They have part number PPTK0038 if you require more.

Do you think this would work for jewelry?

There is no guarantee it will work. Circuit boards and wiring are extremely well taken care of by this tool.

In my opinion, Power Probe would get a 5 star rating if this could be made more durable and work for a longer duration of time
3/5

It is a soldering iron that I use on a daily basis My soldering iron has broken down over time and I usually need to buy a new one. A couple of months of regular use will cause it to stop working properly. If I'm the original reviewer I'd give it a 5 star rating. I have taken them apart to clean them out, or to figure out what is causing them to stop working. However, I am not 100% sure what the problem is. A second problem is that the metal body on the tip will gradually corrode and chip away over time. The issue here is that the tips are interchangeable, and if the body falls apart, it could compromise the top threads where the tip screws into the body. I would give this a 5 star rating if Power probe had made it better durable and had made it work for more than a half year.

Thanks for the info! I was in need of it! My Weller solder gun was out of commission so I decided to fix some of the boat and trailer electrical wiring inside my boat
5/5

The cold and rain had me dreading working outside with it. Then, I went to bed early even though I had started soldering some connections before I went to bed. There was no real sense of urgency when it came to making those few connections. One evening I was shopping on Amazon for soldering irons and the Power Probe Kit caught my eye. I took the plunge and ordered it after reading very good reviews. The Power Probe kit arrived in two days, so I decided not to do the wiring on the boat or trailer until the Power Probe arrived. After firing it up, I added some butane to fill the unit with gas, scrap pieces of electrical wire and solder, and took it to the garage. My utter surprise as I started soldering quickly was how quickly it heated up and got the wires soldered after tinning the tip. As soon as the trial run was over, I went out to the boat and started working on the wiring repairs. I am thrilled with the results of the power probe! There were probably 25 connections that needed to be soldered very quickly and the unit worked well without a hitch. It is as small as a toy compared to my old Weller gun! Every time the gas heater fired up, there were no leaks, and the flame was perfectly regulated. This is one of the best soldering kits on the market and I would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase one.

I think the tool should be redesigned
3/5

This heat shrink gun is nice and works well, the one negative is the open port on the tip, which is convenient for applying The finger will scald if it is pointed the wrong way and not in a deliberate effort to do so. Furthermore, there is no stand. It has a square part that provides some balance, but most often it rolls, and if you sit it on that hub, the heat will burn a hole in mere seconds. If you want to know how I know, ask me. I think the design of this tool needs some work in terms of what people who use it on a regular basis think about it.

Junk for less than a dollar
3/5

Lights do not come on. There is something people are raving about, but I don't understand. There was one time it worked as a soldering iron and I haven't seen it work again except in torch mode. This week's update We're able to get it more or less regularly to light up. You won't find anything better for the price than this piece of cheap junk. I would call it a crude soldering iron worthy of cave men. It took me multiple attempts to make what I would consider to be decent solder joints. I find it foolish that no one takes a stand. You can tell that this is one of those products that were designed by somebody who does not It would be nice if my money were refunded to me. Feeling robbed is the best way to describe my feelings.

An Igniter of such poor quality! Would it be better if it were lower in It has never worked properly for me
3/5

I hate leaving bad reviews, but I have never been happy with it. Particularly, the piezo igniter hasn't worked from day one (and yes, I used the best butane I had). It is possible to light up the lamp with a lighter, but the soldering tips have to be screwed on after ignition, which makes it extremely hot. This was in addition to the fact that I think my might have been set with a little too much gas at the lowest setting (best for lighting), and then it completely blows out when I set it to the When I tried pulling it apart, I tried moving the gas adjustment knob back one or two teeth, but it didn't work. Fair enough, I am at altitude (Rocky Mountains), where pretty much everything needs to be adjusted a bit. The igniter of the propane tank that was attached to the fuel tank I pulled while I was digging to see if I could make it spark better, but the spark was too weak In any case, the plastic housing appears to be solid. Although I twisted and pried on the tee shirt, it never snapped. In addition, the metal ring that holds the bottom of the unit together is extremely I consequently gave it more than one star due to this, and the fact that I was able to jury rig it to make it work. Additionally, I am sorry for the delay. You have to first set it at the lowest setting, then barely push the on lever toward the lighter, with it already lit and in front of where the gas exits, to get it to light manually. If it goes, you can then turn the power switch on by pushing the lever all the way to on. When using a tip, make sure you get a red glow on the screen before you turn it on, not just a flame. After screwing in the tip, tighten the screw. Your fingers are fast enough to start the threads on the tip, but you should quickly switch over to the 7mm wrench that comes with the kit so your finger tips remain intact.

All in all, this was the wisest purchase I've made this It has been about 10 months since I purchased the Power Probe
5/5

The purchase of this system may be the best investment I have ever made in my career as a technician. There is no hesitation when it is lit because it is light, powerful, and fast. You can even solder faster with this iron than with a standard soldering iron. Prior to this purchase, I was hauling around a benchtop Weller station that took up a lot of space in the back of the My need for a soldering iron in the field doesn't arise very often, but when I do, I prefer a quality tool that I can adjust to my needs. I liked the convenience of this, and the fact that it takes up much less room in the van is a big plus!

I enjoyed using this product, the only complaint I have is that the soldering tips are cheap and won't hold up to repeated use. This is about 20 times since I first bought it and the "wedge" tip just stopped working. However, I'll just buy a few tips so I can keep them It has everything I need to do occasional soldering and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. In fact, it takes so little time to warm up that I am even tempted to keep one at my bench!.
