I use it to clean up 3D prints, rather than to solder. I've never used a hot knife before, so I'm not overwhelmed, but this is my first time. It would have been nice to have a knife like an Xacto - a thin cutting blade As a matter of fact, I assumed I was getting one from the images. What appears to be a thin blade actually consists of a diagonal chisel tip, a size too large for what I was planning to do with it. Hot knives aren't ideal for making thin cuts, so don't waste your money on them. I cannot determine if the temperatures are in agreement with the settings on the temperature control because I do not have access to a temperature meter. An on/off switch would be of great use to me, so I may add this to my soldering kit instead of my 3D-printing Although I haven't used it to solder yet, I'm reserving judgment on its soldering abilities until I do.

On the tool, there is an on/off switch - I like that. Iron holder appears to be intended for a larger iron or one with a collar - only drawback is size of iron holder. Your work surface can be touched by the iron if it slips all the way through.

I -T A tip that fits this iron will not work! I have circled the tip of the hat in the photo to show what it looks like at the end of it. This iron cannot be used if it is solid. My favorite feature of this particular microwave is that the temperature can be adjusted and the power switch is right on the unit. There are a lot of extras in this kit, from a lot of decent heat shrink to ESD (Electrostatic As a gift, it came with a lot of stuff and I was pleased with how much was included. There are also a variety of tip styles available. It gets hot quickly and has a nice balance when I turned it on before giving it away.

Although I was concerned about the quality when purchasing a bundle that seemed so low cost, the solder iron exceeds my expectations and is more reliable than the expensive solder iron that I bought back when Radio Shack was still around. There is no need to worry about the meter's accuracy. I plan to buy again from this store.
