I put it under an aluminum Mac desktop pedestal, which is electrically connected to the computer case, with the black side up. The mouse then rolls around on the remainder of the mat, which I cut down to 14x14 inches. (Dimensions: 36x36 cm) When I get an electric shock from walking across the carpet, I touch the mat and safely discharge myself to the desktop case, where I then touch the mouse. My discharge would be carried into the electronics via the mouse cable, causing the Mac to burp if I touched the mouse first. The mat has just enough electrical resistivity to slow the discharge and keep it from bothering the Mac. (The Mac is well-designed, with a completely new interface.) The interior electronics are protected by an enveloping metal case that keeps electrical disturbances on the case out. ) As a result, in my application, there is no need for a ground wire.
No, but I roll the mouse on the rest of the mat, which is positioned under the aluminum pedestal of a Mac desktop, black side up. I let go of the mouse by first touching the mat. If you're working on sensitive electronics, a wrist strap can be easily connected by drilling a hole in the mat and inserting a small nut, bolt, and two washers.

The proportions are ideal: neither too small nor too large. The wrist strap is equipped with an alligator clip that allows it to be attached to the mat at any point along its edge. The thickness of the mat wowed me. It sits on the workbench but moves around. to make storage more convenient.
I bought this to work on my RC cars, so I can't comment on heat resistance or anything like that. br>It's a nice mat that keeps things off the kitchen table, but you might want to leave it unrolled for a few days. The material has a foul odor to it.
I can't seem to get it to work. Unfortunately, it is too late to return it. Purchase a different product.
This product is the ideal size for an ATX mid-tower computer. The tower project does an excellent job of removing static threats. My version had a stronger odor (not unpleasant), but I suppose that's to be expected given the material.
It has an unusual odor, but it functions well and is the ideal size.
I'll have to come up with a different solution that doesn't have such a strong odor.
