Is it capable of picking up from a floor-sitting position?

Yes, if the patient is in the sling.

This item is labeled as a kit, but it also states that one of each is included. Just wanted to double-check that the kit includes the two straps?

A pair of straps is included in the kit. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Is it necessary to use the straps in order to use the lift?

I'm not sure what else you need in addition to the lift. Unfortunately, we only used the lift once. The following weekend, my poor wife had to go to the hospital. She returned home and died the next morning at a young age. I apologize for not being able to assist you. I'm trying to sell my lift, as well as all of the slings and other accessories that came with it.

How long do these straps have to be?

For the top part, 14 inches is the minimum and 9 inches is the maximum; for the bottom part, 23 inches is the maximum and 14 inches is the minimum and 14 inches is the maximum.

This strap assembly did not appeal to me - The hooks are similar to chain kits, and it's great to see my 85-year-old mother. It's really depressing to see mom in her sling with these hooks. Because the material stretches and you're left with the hooks, she could easily cut herself on this. If the person in the sling has full mental capacity and isn't elderly, you can simply advise them to be cautious. My mother has dementia, and she didn't know what to be cautious of in our situation. So when we tried, it was simply too stressful. I now know that we prefer slings with built-in all-material loops, rather than detachable loops or hooks!.

Nylon is also strong and easy to work with when lifting a person

Straps are more flexible than chains, and the nylon is strong and easy to work with around a person who is being lifted. We are extremely pleased with the straps and would recommend them to anyone who needs to lift or move a patient. Thks. Ron P.
