Because of the price, I'm deducting one star; however, these are sturdy, portable, and compact; the rope could be better, but that's a simple fix. The ratchet has good-sized pins for the hook and axle for the gear, and they appear to be well-anchored. I believe you could use 5/16 rope in the mechanism for added strength if desired, and it appears to be strong enough to handle this. I did this to some of my older ones (unknown brand) and it worked great once I got the larger diameter rope through the pulley system. The gear appears to be made of less expensive metal (zinc over pot metal, I believe), but I'm glad it's not plastic, and it appears to be strong enough to handle anything within reason (don't use it to strap down a bulldozer). I've been using these types for quite some time now, and they've never let me down. That's why I went out and bought a couple more. They are extremely beneficial.
In the last two years, I've purchased five sets of these rackets. They are far more user-friendly than any other product I've tried in the past. There were no issues with any of them, and they were a lot more convenient to use.
They can tie down the odd antique store find or the lawnmower in a flash. There are no knots to deal with, and the strap ratchet release nightmare is a thing of the past. This is one of those seemingly insignificant details that adds up to a significant difference.
Around 12 years ago, I bought these to store my kayaks. The kayaks have long since vanished, but the ones that were purchased in the first place are still in use. In each truck, I have a set of four. My smaller trucks will benefit from the 10 footers, while my full-size truck will benefit from the 15 footers I recently purchased. These tie downs drew me in because of their versatility and ease of storage.
I needed a way to attach a cargo box to my ATV securely. I ordered it after seeing it and thinking it might work. I tried it out right away after receiving it from Amazon, as is customary. I used to fasten the box with turnbuckles, which took a long time, but this thing is so much faster! In a matter of seconds, I'll be able to secure the cargo box. I can remove the cargo box in the same amount of time by pressing the "release" button on the Rope Ratchet. I was so pleased with it that I ordered a second one to secure additional loads.
I've never owned a better ratchet or hold down device. Period !.
I found the Brand Rope Ratchet I had after noticing how many Bungy cords I'd gone through. (Carolina North Manufacturing Co. , Inc. ) ) and ordered a few more in 1/4" and 3/8" These are built to last, and replacement rope is easy to come by.
