You should not use a 12kg crucible with this method. Once the crucible gets that big, it is usually necessary to get a crucible made for that size.
Using your thumb and index finger, pinch the lip of the crucible to pick it up. That's how I do it all the time. I need to have a taller kiln to do it. Taking a hold of the sides is impossible. The weight is too large at 6kg. A weight of around 2kg will fit, however.

Specifically, I bought it so that I could pick up small, cone-shaped items Out of my TALL 60-mm snails, I shaped rabbit snails An aquarium with a capacity of 50 gallons. For the pinchers to get into and push into my plants and gravel, they had to have a small socked tip with a rough grip and a large enough surface area to hold the shells in place. There is a finer grip on most of the tongs, similar to that of tweezers, which is less likely to hold onto snails and less likely to poke into small spaces. The job was done with these.
They are used maybe once every two months with my grandson. package, so they will not be used until the grandson returns home from college in a few They have lasted long enough for me to be hopeful they will last even.
This product does exactly what it is advertised to do. In fact, the tongs grip crucibles well enough for them to be removed from furnaces. Then, I set down the crucible and adjusted the grip by using the circle part to hold it near the center. Easy pouring is made possible by this grip.
The review can be found here. Despite the fact that it seems like a good tool, we bought it together with a crucible and gloves (as recommended by the manufacturer), and it won't even fit around the crucible! The question now is why is it a recommended size when it's not the correct size?.
For larger jobs, I would recommend heavier-duty tongs because of their quality.
Since I ordered these as a Christmas gift, I cannot speak firsthand about their quality, but they seem to work well for melting metal.
We were looking for items to manage small crucibles in our forge and these were perfectly suitable.
