Despite its top surface being impermeable to moisture/fluids, the mat does have a cushion backing, which can pick up and hold moisture if it flowed from under. There is a possibility that it doesn't get too hot from absorbing the heat of the cement so much as from absorbing the heat of the sunlight. You should be able to mitigate that to a greater extent with the gray, rather than the black.

It would perhaps be better if it was wider and longer. There weren't any others who were comparable to yours in terms of value and quality unless you purchased two or three and put.
I have focused on safety and basic use of the lathe and tools in the wood turning and metal spinning classes I have been teaching at the Techshops. It's a plus if the edges are beveled. I was concerned about tripping on this map because it is quite thick (and very comfortable to stand on). Those edges are well shaped to prevent that from happening.
