I bought a couple of these valves to manually control sprinkler circuits that aren't used very often as I'm rebuilding my sprinkler system. The valve isn't completely closed off. Even when the valve is fully closed, a small drip of water leaks through. I'm replacing it with a brass valve, which will cost me more than if I'd just bought a brass valve to begin with. Because it's a slip fitting, I won't be able to remove it after it's been cemented in place and return it for a refund. The same company also sold me a 1 inch valve. In the same way, it leaks.
I was let down in some ways. After the Texas winter storm, I purchased three of these valves to use as shutoffs. I needed something that could be glued in quickly and easily to my system's lines. Three of them were purchased. There will be two to install and one to keep as a backup. The valve body of one of the two leaks directly. I'm not sure if it's cracked or not, but it appeared to be fairly solid when installed. Now I have to remove and replace the valve. I'm going to spend the extra money on a brass gate valve this time. The spare valve will be discarded with the rest of the PVC scrap. I'm not confident in it, and I don't want to go through this again!.
I need something simple to adjust on a regular basis for my aquarium, especially in small spaces.
It serves its purpose for the price. For an $8 gate valve, don't expect exceptional quality. It works perfectly for me in my aquarium to slow down the drain. If something goes wrong, I'll update this, but so far everything has worked out well.
They were both purchased by me. One was ideal and performs admirably. The second one was too small, so I had to use the primer to melt some of the opening down in order to fit the pipe in, and there was a minor leak as a result. I'd recommend purchasing more than you require and returning the ones that aren't the right size.
It's a little more difficult to turn than other gate valves, but at this price, you can't complain.
These are of lower quality, as you might expect given the price. They're a little difficult to turn, and I may have to replace them with a more expensive valve in the future because the amount of torque required to open and close the valves will eventually break them.
My fish tank overflow is perfectly controlled by this gate valve. The difference in opening between the valve I bought from ACE Hardware and this one is night and day. Unlike the ACE model, which couldn't handle any real flow, this one is a beast and handles it flawlessly.
