What are the requirements for connecting this valve to a water tank?

Dope to put in your pipe Teflon tape is also a good option.

I'm going to use this for a horse drinking canaster that holds 3 quarts of water, but I only have an 8-inch space available. Will this fit?

Although it won't fit in an 8" space, you can cut the end that screws into the ball and re-use it. I threaded it to keep it from protruding too far into my cow stock tank.

Is there any lead in this product?

There is no solder visible; only brass and stainless steel are present.

Is it possible to extend the bar?

The length of the current bar is fixed and cannot be changed. You could have an extension welded in by taking it to a machine shop.

There is no brass valve included in this kit

This item came with a float and a float rod when I received it. The box did not contain a water valve! br>The vendor quickly replaced the item.
