There is only one piece of stainless steel rod with one inch of threads on both ends. As such, if your sump pump float has a 1/4-20 thread you'll need no adapter.
Since I last ordered this, it has been a long time. There is a thread on both ends of it, I believe. It appears I had to screw it into both the valve and the float to make my horse's water work. If someone else can verify that it is threaded both ends, I would appreciate it. There is no way I could be sure for
