What criteria are used to assess this? I didn't get anything that was 1/4" in size. Isn't it enormous?

NPT stands for National Pipe Thread, and this fitting is 1/4 inch NPT. The outside diameter is more than half an inch. The inside hole measures about 1/4 inch in diameter. NPT pipe comes in sizes of 1/8 inch, 3/8 inch, and 1/2 inch. It refers to the inside circumference of a vessel.

I'd like to use it as a source of drinking water. Are these made of brass that isn't tainted with lead?

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I ordered them; they look fine, and the ones I needed worked properly, but I must have been tired; you can get the same stuff for a lot less at Home Depot or Lowe's, and only get what you need; damn, I think the local ace was also cheaper

What can I say, they came in handy in my RV when I needed non-potable water. I taped them and screwed them into a plastic female fitting with teflon tape. It was an excellent solution.

Instead of 1/4", I received 3/8". I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point in the future because it's of good quality. Despite this, I still had to go to Home Depot.
