Do you think this will work with high proof alcohol?

I would say probably not, since the alcohol may leach some plasticizers out of the bottle. Who wants to drink vodka out of plastic bottles?

What is the best way to filter soil samples suspended in buffers with this filter? Which version of autofil should I use, the regular or the SS?

Your filter will NOT put out microbial growth if it is checked for microbial content, but it does come with the vacuum fitting and other than that should be fine.

The filter area has a diameter of how much does this?

There is a 5 inch diameter filter on the 1000ml

Can I purchase the container along with the filter, or must I purchase the filter separately?

The filter is included in the package. Containers with a capacity of 500 ML are available.

The cap of the media bottle can easily be removed and the bottle can be stored

There is no such thing as too much to say about this product! The Autofil Filter not only was extremely time efficient in terms of the speed of filtering, it was easy as well to store. As the top half of the Autofil screws off, we can easily remove and store the media bottle by simply removing the cap.
