Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
3-month pleated 1" air filters for your furnace, air conditioner, or HVAC system outperform fiberglass, are washable, and are non-electrostatic.
3M's exclusive Filtrete Brand 3-in-1 technology traps undesirable air particles while allowing cleaner air to flow through.
Large particles like lint, household dust, dust mite debris, and mold spores are attracted to and captured by this filter.
MERV 5 is the equivalent of Filtrete 300 MPR (Microparticle Performance Rating).
Replace your home air filter every 90 days or sooner if possible for optimal performance.
Only for use in your home
The higher the MPR, the more microparticles your filter will capture from the air passing through it, including pollen, pet dander, smoke, bacteria, and viruses.
A clogged filter reduces airflow and forces the system to work harder to keep you warm or cool, wasting energy. Sign up for a filter change reminder service that suits your needs!
For MPR 300, the packaging and filter media may differ.

Questions & Answers

What does the merv rating mean?

Thank you very much for your inquiry. The MERV 5 rating applies to these filters.

Is this UV-proof?

Thank you very much for your inquiry. No. A UV light should not be able to reach this filter if it is installed in your system. We do not recommend using Filtrete Filters if you already have a UV light installed near the filter intake.

Why is it that mine turns black after such a short time?

Scent candles will turn black if they are burned in the house. I installed a new filter and realized a few days later that I hadn't written the date on it so I'd know when it needed to be changed. My filter was black when I opened the return. And after a few days of keeping an eye out, wondering why it was turning black, I realized it was the scented candles that were causing it. So, unless you don't mind your filter turning black, I wouldn't bother with candles.

What is the best material to use so that the HVAC system isn't overworked? Also, what MERV will provide good air quality while not overworking or overloading my HVAC system?

It's not so much the material as it is the density and number of layers. Because I don't know the size/hp of the fan motor in your system, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. I work with a medium-sized group of people. level MERV rated filter, such as these, and simply replace them at more frequent intervals.

UPDATE APRIL 2019. NOTE: THERE HAS BEEN AN UPDATE. br>br>NOTE: THERE HAS BEEN AN UPDATE. br>br> Filtrete Clean Living Basic Dust AC Furnace Air Filter, MPR 300, 20 x 25 x 1-inch I've been using these filters for over 7 years. 6-inch diameter Packing is easy, and I keep my HVAC fan on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which reduces hot/cold spots and reduces dust. It does mean you have to change your filter more frequently, but with three dogs, in addition to the normal dust/dirt/lint, they still last four months. Easy for 6 weeks. I've tested other Amazon brands and found that none of them work any better, in fact, most of them work worse, and none of them offer a real cost savings. br>br>I wasn't planning on writing a review for this, but after reading some of the other reviews, it appeared that there was a significant lack of understanding about these filters. Let me start with the photos that people have posted (not sure if everyone s page looks like mine, should be off to the right side) and as you can see one of the filters I've also read that this filter is too harsh on some units. This is the bottom line of these filters with the least amount of resistance to airflow, and if they are difficult on your unit, you may have a cheap unit or a dying fan. The one where the filter turned black, stopped up, and collapsed was particularly perplexing to me, and the reviewer blamed the filter. This does not appear to be a filter issue, but could be a furnace issue that requires immediate attention. In terms of the thickness of the material used 5 years ago vs. what is used today, thickness means nothing; what matters is the material's permeability to block the passage of dust/dirt and other things harmful to the unit, and yes, Virginia, they have improved the filter over the last 5 years while also saving money. "Does it filter as it should and have the strength to hold up?" is an important question to keep in mind. "The answer is yes; I don't care how much profit they made as long as I can buy them at a reasonable price in comparison to other filters and they actually do the job they promised to do (again, yes) while meeting the MPR 300 specification, which is roughly equivalent to a MERV 7 (again, yes). " Several people have mentioned the filter "bowing" when under pressure; mine stays bowed because I run my fan 24/7 and none have ever failed in 7 years; it can flex, which means it is actually less likely to break apart; the "bowing" is not a sign of failure; if it did come loose, it would mean you have either the wrong size filter or a defective bracket in your unit, because the cardboard frame remains rigid. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. I felt compelled to add that if you leave your filter unattended for much longer than its intended life and it becomes so dirty that it can no longer pass air, it can actually bow to the point where it can break loose; you must ignore it for an extended period of time and have enough trash/dirt to prevent airflow; this is a rare occurrence, but I thought it was worth mentioning. These types of filters should be changed on a regular basis. br>br>I didn't see the point in photographing my filthy filter, but it catches all the dog hair, and during shedding seasons, I may have to replace it every four weeks, but they usually last about six weeks; I have another home in the country, and those last closer to eight weeks (which makes me concerned about the city's air quality). br>br>I should point out that if you had your fly-swatter, you could have gotten away with it. When a night installer installs a "cheaper than dirt" system, the list of potential problems is endless, and they will never admit "it was the cheap system I installed" or "I installed it incorrectly," and the filter is always an easy target. Unfortunately, life tends to follow the adage, "You get what you pay for. "br>br>Bottom Line: Ignore the horror stories; I've spoken with a number of HVAC technicians, and the one thing they all agree on is this: Unless you have a real need for high levels of filtering (severe allergies, for example), use the filter with the least resistance that will block damaging dirt and dust from your unit (that would be this filter), as any higher level of filtering will likely shorten the life of your unit and increase the chances of it freezing up in the summer due to reduced airflow over the coils. I gave it four stars instead of five because the shipping packaging appears to be a crap shoot; most of the time they arrive in perfect condition, but I've had several delivered where the filters were nearly unusable due to being crushed in an inadequate shipping box with no protection.

The photo has a variety of filters
3/5

First and foremost, the filters used are not the same as those used in the photo (see photos). They cause an excessive pressure drop, causing the furnace to cycle on and off every ten minutes. The HVAC company explained that because there isn't enough airflow, the furnace gets too hot, so it turns off for a few moments to cool down, then turns back on. starts. It is inefficient in terms of energy usage.

There are no words to describe how cheap it is
3/5

We purchase a lot of furnace filters and have tried both high-end and low-cost brands. We hadn't tried the 3M Filtrate brand before because it was usually out of our budget. So I bought a half dozen when I found them on Amazon for a reasonable price. They're the most flimsy, gnarled-up mess of filters I've ever purchased. There is no cross bracing to keep the filters from bowing or to provide a handhold when inserting them. The ripples (ridges) in the filter material are neither straight nor even because they are poorly supported. It remains to be seen whether this will have an effect on their filtering ability. Definitely not the quality you'd expect from a 3M product, and it's not something we'll buy again.

This is an excellent furnace filter
5/5

Because they allow air to pass through, these are excellent filters. I live 150 miles south of the Paradise fire, and the filter has picked up a lot of smoke in the last two weeks. And that's with all the windows closed.

The item was defective and became dislodged in the oven
3/5

I was eager to get my hands on these filters because they were inexpensive, allowing me to replace them more frequently. I put the first one in right after I got them, which was about a month ago. It appeared to be in good condition and fit into my furnace exactly as I had expected. My house is cold after a few weeks. The temperature in my home is set to 69 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature in the house will never exceed 62 degrees Fahrenheit. All of my windows and doors were double-checked. I changed the temperature in the house. I couldn't come up with anything. I checked the filter (which I had just replaced a few weeks ago) as a last-ditch effort before an HVAC appointment. The wires were bowed and it was stuck in the furnace. When I finally got it out, I discovered that the filter had become damaged and had clogged the intake. My house was warm again within an hour after I replaced the filter with a new one. Spend a little more money on a different filter! It's not worth the added stress and danger that a faulty air filter could cause.

You've got all the filters you'll ever need

More restrictive (and expensive) filters will simply kill your HVAC system; instead, save your money and repair bills by investing in a proper HEPA air system and only using these.

THE QUALITY IS EXTREMELY BAD
3/5

Never again will I purchase these air filters from Amazon. I've purchased this brand in a variety of locations with no issues. The quality of the most recent batch I purchased on Amazon is terrible. The filter had been set to level two. It's been 5 weeks, and the filter is so cheap and flimsy that it gets sucked up and bows up into the vent whenever the air/heat is turned on. It's extremely loud, and it used to wake me up every time the heat turned on in the middle of the night. Because of this, I asked my husband to change the filter, and when I got a new filter out of the box, I noticed that the fibers were not evenly covered, and some parts of the filter were visible through! This means that nothing will be filtered, and dust will continue to blow around my house and into our faces. These filters are completely useless. Money that could have been better spent. And it explains why there's been a lot of dust in the air lately, as well as why everyone in my house has been sick for the past few weeks.

It's of good quality and it gets the job done
5/5

The thickest and heaviest furnace filter may not be the best choice for your furnace - THESE FILTERS ARE OF GOOD QUALITY AND WILL PERFORM WELL IF REPLACED EVERY 2 YEARS. 3 months. Even though I changed them a little early, my furnace is as good as new (it's 23 years old!). ) I'm a huge fan of this item.
