I was attempting to tap into the wires in order to install a reverse/backup camera. The tap wire would be pierced by the units, and even after crimping it as tightly as possible, the side connector would not hold it. br>br>I manually cut away wire from the taps and soldered the wire into the spades to fix them. In the process of trying to make it all work, I ruined six or seven pairs. It would have been far more efficient to solder everything manually.

These are functional and suitable for the majority of spade connections. I wouldn't put my faith in the maximum current rating for a long time because the crimp connection has less metal than expected. Overall, the price and ease of use are excellent. br>br>(With a tight fitting connection, I have pushed 30 amps for 10 minutes with the 16awg spade, and they get warm but not hot. ) (Do whatever you want with this. ).

I needed taps for a trailer lighting project and figured it would be a good idea to keep some extras on hand for future projects. So far I have only used a few of them and my success rate is 50%. The issue has been that the tap does not always make a good connection to the wire, and one time it worked for a week before failing.

My brow furrowed in suspicion after using them; I couldn't believe how easily I'd tapped into my OEM speaker wire. They weren't supposed to work, and I was half expecting them to. They did, however. They do . What happened to you during my entire life? If only I could go back in time and undo the hours or weeks I've spent splicing into wires.
Sigh. br>These are so effective that I'm depressed. So there you have it.

The metal part of the splicer clamp easily comes off, which is my only complaint. It's not a problem to replace them. It is, however, inconvenient if it falls off while you are wriggling to get it in position to tap into the wire. br>br>Selecting the appropriate size for both the splicer and the T connector is not only important for a secure connection, but it also makes your job easier. Crimping the T connector, for example, does not require the use of a crimping tool. My wire cutter's handle functioned perfectly well.

Make sure the spade is in the middle of its protective housing when inserting it into the tap. It will not make contact with the connector's metal if it does not do so. I spent nearly an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't get out of my bind with the tap. I needed to add an extra 12v power source to my truck but couldn't fit a soldering iron in the space, so crimp connectors were the best option. I only had one T-shirt on me at the time. In my assorted collection of tap connectors, it seemed like a better deal to get a large set for only a few dollars more than the few I'd need. I can see using these connectors in other projects, both automotive and non-automotive, such as powering a dash cam. I can also see using them in some small electronics/robotics projects I'm working on.
