If you want to increase the volume, there's a gain button on it.
My lightning to USB converter On both ends of the C cable, it is extremely tight and stable. Fiio may have switched to a better cable as a result of customer complaints.
I have both models, with the K5 Pro serving as my desktop computer and the Q3 serving as an iPad or iPhone companion. Both have identical decoding capabilities, with the exception of the K5 PRo having a lighter front end and more audio input/output options.
The device was designed primarily for use on mobile devices (tablets, smartphones), not computers, and that is what it should be.

Adapter type C (male)! I bought this because my previous portable DAC (Monoprice THX Portable) was inconvenient to use with my iPhone and was the last Micro-USB device available. In my travel kit, I have a USB device. This not only lets me get rid of the micro cable, but it also lets me use a DAC/AMP without the Apple Camera Connector dongle. I was looking for a portable DAC/AMP that would allow me to use somewhat difficult-to-drive headphones at reasonable volume levels without requiring a bunch of dongles, and this is it. br>br>Connectivitybr>br>This includes a Lightning (male) to USB-C cable (which is surprisingly difficult to find separately). Short C (male) cable that performs admirably. It also comes with a USB port. C to USB- C, USB- A to USB- C, and 3. 5mm to 3. 5mm. In general, whatever you use should be covered by the included features. In terms of outputs, you have a enticing number of two. 5 mm, 3. 5 mm and 4 mm 4 mm. It also comes with some rubber bands for attaching to a player or phone, as well as a mesh carrying bag. br>br>Sound Quality / Volumebr>br>I'll be honest, I don't have golden ears. When I compared it to my previous THX, it sounded a lot better. a lot alike Both sound much better and have a higher volume than the Apple lightning to 3. Dongle with a diameter of 5mm They drove my Sennheiser HD660Ss way past comfortable listening territory and into the realm of discomfort. br>br>Overallbr>br>I bought this so that I could have a good listening experience while I'm away from my company's office or at home. Because of the numerous ports and cables, this is a very versatile piece of technology that I can use with both my iPhone and my Mac/PC. Also, you can choose headphones without having to bring a bag of adapters with you. If you don't expect it to sound like a full-fledged desktop system, I believe you'll be satisfied with it as a portable DAC/AMP. br>br>Complaintsbr>br>I didn't like how the knob felt. I also believe that the bass boost muddies the sound.
I went ahead and bought this because Apple now does full Lossless. However, nothing appears to be exploiting it in my testing. You can make Apple Music play high-resolution lossless files all of the time. It will alert you that additional hardware may be required, which is exactly what this thing is for. However, when connected to my Macbook Pro via USB C, Apple Music does not indicate that it is playing hi-res music. My FiiO's light is blue, indicating that it is below 48K. Apple Music, on the other hand, switches to Full Dolby when I plug my headphones directly into the Macbook. I've used the DAC with both my Android and my brand new iPad Pro, and the light on it is always blue. br>br>I'll have to do some more testing, but none of my sources appear to be passing through at full quality.
I don't have anything to compare it to because this is the first portable amplifier I've purchased. br>br>I like the included accessories, but the main cable is difficult to replace because Fiio does not sell replacement USB-C to-C cables. Any otg usb c to c cable will work fine; you just need one with two right angle bends to route the cable properly. But, aside from the cables, the rest of the cables, as well as the small carry bag, are fine. br>br>The device itself is sleek and small, smaller than most smartphones but not as small as those clip-on mp3 players. Consider how small it is by comparing it to those thin metal battery packs that you can attach to your phone. br>br>There are a variety of connection options. Connect any usb cable to your computer or laptop and it will recognize it as a sound device; it also works with phones and iPhones. Just make sure your phone's charge switch is turned off so it doesn't try to steal your battery. However, when you use the 3. The output is limited to the 2 by a 5mm input. 5 mm and 4 mm The output is 4mm. If you're not sure what those terms mean, just use USB C as an input. However, since the cable included is the main cable used to connect your device, I wish it was a little more sturdy, or at the very least, offer a replacement cable online, because the only usb c to c cable I see has straight connectors instead of right angle connectors like the one included in the box. br>br>I only have "akg" Samsung headphones, Grado Sr80e's, SHP9500's, and Sony WH-1000's for headphones. CH710N. I wasn't going to buy more expensive headphones that would take full advantage of a better dac amp because they weren't the best for testing. br>br>Because my primary phone no longer has a headphone jack, I had to rely on my tablet and computer to assess sound quality. The most significant difference is the amount of volume I can get out of my headphones. I can rarely get my headphones loud enough to be uncomfortable when they're plugged into a standard headphone jack. This is great for my hearing, but it's not ideal for everything else. I can barely go to maximum volume with the amp without causing damage to my ears, which is fantastic. I have more control over the audio of my devices now that I have more volume headroom. Of course, make sure your audio source is turned up to its maximum volume and fine-tune your listening level with the amp's volume knob. br>br>In terms of being a dac. For me, it's difficult to say. There may be a difference I can't hear if I were blindfolded and switched between plugging it into the jack and the dac amp. Perhaps the sound is clearer, wider, or more defined, but I'm not hearing it. This amplifier is far more powerful. br>br>One thing I wasn't able to test was the 2. 5 mm and 4 mm 4mm balanced ports because none of my headphones have them and I didn't want to spend money on balanced headphones that rarely come with a balanced cable, forcing me to pay even more money on top of the expensive headphones I already had. There's no denying that output that is technically balanced is better and more powerful. Is $150 for this thing too much? br>br>Is $150 for this thing too much? Sort of? You should keep in mind that you can connect this to anything that supports USB audio, and if you have headphones that benefit from more power and a good quality dac, I recommend getting it. If your headphones have balanced cables, this is a good way to power them. Getting a dongle, on the other hand, is the simplest way to reclaim your headphone jack.
