It works perfectly for me. In order to power the TV, a USB power source has to be plugged into the port on the back. As a result, no power is used until a power cable is added to the TV. Because this television is in the basement and is only used for about one hour each day, I use a Wemo smart switch to turn it on and off when I need it.
