Questions & Answers

I have a 2013 Mac Air and I would like to know how much better this unit sounds when used with Mac hardware (I have good internal DACs on my Mac)?

It is my opinion that KM is wrong. Although I have not tried AudioEngine's DAC, I have had success with the NUforce Mac-based DAC One particular DAC I own made a noticeable difference, especially in the clarity of high frequencies. A DAC built into the Mac sounds shrill when this occurs. In the lower-left corner You might not be able to hear it on higher-end headphones. Every person has a different hearing as well. An external DAC enables me to hear Google Play streaming on my Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones for several hours longer than without it.

Is it possible to connect a headphone and bypass the analog outputs ?

Zack, of course. While headphones are plugged into the D1, the analog RCA-in connectors are disconnected. It would be nice if it was more flexible but that's just the way it is.

Do you need LPCM or PCM for the S/PDIF input signal to use this DAC. A majority of TVs can output PCM, but not all of them. DTS and AC are featured on the 37LZ30 What is the output of 3?

On Audioengine's site you will find the following FAQ * Q My D1 is connected to the optical output on my TV, but I'm not getting Could you tell me what I should This is A Please verify that "PCM STEREO" is selected and "DOLBY DIGITAL" is turned off in your TV's menu. Therefore, it is likely only capable of playing back PCM over a S/PDIF connection.

As I don't have a sound card in my PC, do I still need to get one if I want D1 Thanks a lot. ?

As the D1 is a soundcard, you won't need another sound card to play music on your computer. Just hook the D1 up to the USB port on your computer, connect an amplifier or headphones, and listen to your favorite

3/5

This is the third of 3 I'm ordering. Why do I need this? It is possible to talk about price and what you expect in various ways. I don't want to talk about it. My professional background is in the audiovisual field. My experience is rather limited, so I can only speak from my limited point of view. The 1 star reviews I've read here seem to indicate that. I don't care. When your computer is old and loaded with things, it's taxed. There are a lot of things happening. There might be a number of NO-s on your itinerary WE DO NOT WANT WEBSITES. Having been on the job for several years, I have used these in a number of installations which are very demanding, they get used with sweaty fingers and by non-technical employees. Among the problems with this product is that it is used on laptops that do not browse the Internet, do not look at questionable sites, or It has only ever been environmental problems that have easily been solved. When I say environment, I mean cables being unplugged, mute buttons being hit or even the DAC turning off by mistake. Other things I've noticed were my laptop having issues due to "user error"
It's a solid device with a small foot print, the volume knob is smooth, and it works Just want to check out two of these one star reviews (I've had several of these running for six hours every day for months with no issues)* First, the volume knob can be touchy. To start with, you need to adjust the volume on the PC, then on the D1. After that, you need to adjust it on the My equipment isn't a match for your equipment, so I can't tell whether or not the volume on your amplifier is acting like a gain or is What settings are there in terms of adjusting amplifer inputs or outputs. For the money, this product is a great buy. I use it for the purposes I stated earlier. Regardless of whether you own a questionable computer, it is definitely a good idea to read all of the 5 star and 4 star reviews. There is a chance that you might end up with Despite the fact that this DAC is built to be robust, you can't blame the stereo in your car for a faulty transmission. I have used these on mostly MacBooks and a few desktop PCs, all without any issues. It's been six months since they were injured, so they have healed up and are now well.

The sound is great, but there was one annoying problem (which is now By connecting the D1 to a different USB port, I was able to eliminate the burst of digital noise
5/5

I want to give the product a 5-Star rating. I have finally found speakers that live up to expectations, and my Sony MDR-XB550I stereo sound system does not disappoint As well as sounding great, the V6 headphones deliver great comfort, too. Previous to this, I was using a cheapo USB DAC, but the sound quality was terrible. There is a slight problem with the AudioEngine D1 every once in a while, it produces bursts of digital noise at full volume (regardless of volume setting) that frankly, are enough to scare the living daylights out of you. There is no cheapo DAC that can do With a DAC at this price and one that is supposed to be audiophile-grade, this is a serious problem. However, it sounds very That's why I'm giving it four.

I like the design of the DAC, and it looks very professional
4/5

I have both the AudioEngine DAC and the DragonFly that I own. They are both very good, though the DragonFly is a little different. Besides the volume control and RCA output, I am using this one because of its L and R connections. My car has an Android tablet (7. I'm using this in my car. Moreover, the construction of the DAC is very solid, as is the design. I like the smooth surface of the front of the DAC, which feels nice to the touch and looks sharp. Only one complaint I have is I wish they added a marker on the volume knob to show the volume position. I draw a line with a sharpie marker over the volume knob to show the position The lowest possible rating).

For me, it doesn't make any sense at all to buy more expensive sound cards from Dinosaur
5/5

Since I didn't pay attention to USB DAC in the last few years, I no longer pay attention to it. The price of PCI good sound cards, however, is outrageous. In terms of comparison with my ASUS Xonar ESSENCE ST, I can say that this is significantly better I have been using the PCI card on another desktop for years. This card is really fantastic, I have enjoyed using it for analog, from my desktop to my stand alone amplifier with two stereo speaker sets. There is also a 250 - 250 deal on that card. The price of a PCI bus slot is around 280 bills today! Although it is not as good as the $$$ Clarooo Halo, it is still an excellent soundcard. The sound of this audio engine once both of my music players have been configured (foobar2000) is every bit as pleasant as that of those two decent sound cards. Plug and play no drivers no problems with hum, static, or other problems from the MB. You could also move it to another device, but I have not tried that As of now, I don't have any headphones that are really good, but I do have a decent set that is on par with In this case too, I am using the audioengine with a 400-amp headphone amplifier attached to my desktop as my preamp, then outputting to a 2-way It is the RCA I have tried so far, not the optic. My only wish is that there is a built-in power switch. Whenever I shut down my PC, I leave it on because pulling the USB cord in and out all the time will cause that to wear out, and they are fragile and always break on me. In addition, I wish the volume control had a notch in it so you could tell where you were on how loud it was. I can see where for some folks using a laptop, the fact that there is no power cord and it only uses the USB port as power is an issue, but for a desktop, it's not a problem. This DAC is a better choice than the sound card embedded in the Intel MB, I really mean it. It's even closer to the real-time audio output of the Intel MB. Windows 10 is plug-and-play, and I have no problems with this. Despite being recognized, make sure you check your sound settings. I have made the default sound the sound of your computer. If you right-click on the icon properties in the sound or volume mixer on Windows, you will find some settings and DSP features. They are off, except that I have my full size speakers set. The DAC is great. It has two stereo inputs and two stereo outputs.
