It is a momentary contact switch, if this is the one I bought. Push down and hold the switch down to close it. The opening is made when the lid is released. Think of it like the push of a doorbell. This switch does not have an amperage rating that I can recall. My guess is that it wasn't even over 5 amps. Please find the answer to your question below.
