It should be long enough to dovetail 3/4" but no longer. You can also use it for wood that is less than 3/8" thick.

Is the degree of the dovetail bit critical when using a Porter Cable dovetail jig?

So, when using the PC 4200 series of Jigs, are we forced to use PC Bits for Through Dovetails? The 4216 is what I have.

The shaft's length

The product is good, but when we had to use it outside of the United States, we ran into a problem. The shaft size required by the router bit is not available on any other router machines in the world. As a result, it had to be shaved.
